About AmmobiaAmmobia is on a mission to revolutionize the ammonia industry. We are a seed-stage startup developing Haber Bosch 2.0 – a next-generation ammonia synthesis process enabling cost-effective and clean ammonia production. We are supported by leading climate tech organizations including Starlight Ventures, the US Department of Energy, Collaborative Fund, Third Derivative, Forbes 30u30, and more.Job DescriptionWe are seeking a motivated and creative Process Design Engineer to design and implement the process system around our proprietary swing reactor. You will play a key role in designing Ammobia's reactor system and integrating it into various ammonia plant configurations.This role is ideal for an experienced process engineer seeking high impact in an early-stage startup, valuing teamwork, data-driven decisions, and rapid iteration.Successful applicants will have most of the following:Responsibilities:Design, simulate, and implement process and control schemes for our swing reactor systemDevelop and perform complex dynamic simulations of the reactor system, including reactors, separation systems, and auxiliary equipmentConvert dynamic system models into steady-state interpretations for broader process modelingBuild PFDs, P&IDs, and control narratives for engineering design and fabricationCollaborate with reaction engineering and other process engineers to design an integrated, optimized systemDevelop and implement techno-economic models to evaluate reactor system costs and tradeoffsQualifications:5+ years of experience in an industrial settingPhD or equivalent experienceExperience building dynamic process models and modeling unit operationsExperience designing control systems for dynamic chemical processesDeep knowledge of mechanical systems (fixed and rotating) for plant operationsLinking simulation models with experimental and plant dataExperience in plant process design in energy, O&G, or chemicalsProficiency with flowsheeting and modeling software (e.g., Aspen, gPROMS)Excellent communication skillsSelf-motivated, proactive, and team-orientedWilling to relocate to SFNice-to-have Skills:Experience with cyclic reaction or separation processes (e.g., TSA, PSA)Modeling reactors, especially gas-phase catalytic reactorsBuilding system optimization models for renewable energy-driven processesCost estimation experience using Aspen or public dataExperience in ammonia synthesis, cracking, or separationsStartup experienceExperience in chemical engineering firms or technology licensingSalary range: $100,000 - $200,000 per year.Benefits include:Competitive equity grantsHealthcare, dental, vision, life insurance, 401kGym benefitTeam social eventsPaid time off, including holidays between Christmas and New YearWho we areWe are a passionate team of scientists and engineers valuing teamwork, accountability, open communication, and rapid iteration.
