Neurologists play a crucial role in the healthcare system, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of neurological disorders while also providing education and training to residents and fellows.QualificationsTo qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA PolicyDegree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicineThe degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completedCurrent, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of ColumbiaResidency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificationProficiency in spoken and written EnglishAdditional Requirement: Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and NeurologyEligible for academic appointment to the University of Cincinnati College of MedicineGreat communication and interpersonal skillsPreferred Experience: Experience in the provision of neurological care to both outpatients and inpatientsExperience with the administration of Botox injectionsExperience in management of vagal nerve stimulatorsFellowship training/Experience in Multiple Sclerosis/Neuroimmunology, Movement disorders, Epilepsy, Vascular neurology, Headache, Neuromuscular disorders, Neuro-HospitalistDutiesThe Staff Neurologist will be responsible for providing all services required in the practice of Neurology in the context of the VA system and his/her clinical privilegesProvision of outpatient and inpatient neurological consultation with appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record within prescribed timeframes and accuracyInterviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient careTake calls from the ED as neededPerform neurologic procedures, like NCS/EMG, EEG interpretation, and/or botox administration, commensurate to his/her individual training and expertise, in accordance with local VA credentialing and privileging requirementsPerform, supervise, and interpret results of procedures related to Neurologic disorders such as lumbar punctures, EMGs, and EEGsShares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotationFollow facility stroke protocolSupervision of residents and fellows in the outpatient and inpatient setting with appropriate documentation in the medical recordSupervise and teach neurology residents, fellows, and medical students during their rotation on neurology serviceProvide clinical supervision and support to any Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioners working in the Neurology clinicProvide education to other physicians and healthcare professionals regarding neurological disorders and their treatmentsParticipating in quality assurance activities to ensure patient safety, performance improvement and quality of careEnsuring patient privacy and confidentiality of patient medical informationEnsuring accurate CPT codingEnsuring compliance with federal statutes, VA directives and policies, and The Joint Commission StandardsWork Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am- 4:00 pm. Compressed tours may be offered.
