Johnson VA Medical Center (LAJVAMC), the incumbent will be assigned to the Behavioral Health Service. The staff psychiatrist will work under the Service Chief of Behavioral Health and is responsible for direct psychiatric and medical management care of Veterans at the LAJVAMC.QualificationsTo qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.Basic Requirements:United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA PolicyDegree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicineThe degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completedCurrent, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of ColumbiaResidency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificationProficiency in spoken and written EnglishPhysical Requirements: Lifting up to 35 pounds, intermittently, moderate carrying (15-35 pounds), intermittently, lifting over 35 pounds with assistive devices in accordance with the Safe Patient Handling Policy except in emergent situations requiring prompt patient careDutiesFunctions as a provider in the psychiatry specialty. The staff psychiatrist will be responsible for the overall psychiatric care of patients with conditions requiring treatment in his/her specialty to include consultative, prescriptive and ordering authority in the outpatient setting at the LAJVAMC.Clinical duties include but are not limited to: provision of psychiatric care in an outpatient setting including diagnosis, management, and follow-up of psychiatric patients, review and make recommendations for transfer to a tertiary care center when appropriateServe as an attending to medical students and psychiatry residents, call duties, and inpatient coverageCompensation & pension exams as assigned by the Chief of Behavioral MedicineWork as a collaborative team with assigned nurse case manager when appropriateAssesses patient's/family's adaptation to patient illness and ability to provide for patient's care needs and provide resources in areas that are identified as areas for improvementBenefitsVA offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus), Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment), and a competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular salary increases. #J-18808-Ljbffr
