OverviewACCESS South Bay is seeking a Department Manager of Emergency, Nursing, and Critical Care to join our growing team!Job Summary: Reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Operations, the Department Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining a team of engaged and empowered team members to provide exceptional service to our patients, clients, and referral veterinarians. In this role, the Department Manager works with the Director of Clinical Operations, Hospital Director of Operations, and Medical Director to promote a culture of collaboration, foster career development, and cultivate inclusivity. Through delivering optimal employee and medical experiences, the Department Manager contributes to healthy growth.ResponsibilitiesLeading with Your Head: Understanding business, solving problems, and making decisions through inclusive contributions of others. Include: ensuring the department’s healthcare team has the resources and tools needed to deliver a high quality of care; coaching team members on process improvement to operate efficiently and sustainably; serving as the primary point of contact for questions, comments, concerns, and issues for the department on and off premises; developing, monitoring, and adjusting schedules to maximize efficiency; making recommendations for purchases of needed supplies and equipment; managing and influencing department financial decisions; ensuring standards of medical excellence including OSHA, VMB, and DEA requirements; initial screening of client concerns and collaboration with the Director of Service and Hospitality to resolve; splitting time between clinical and administrative duties with a minimum of 50% administrative tasks (varies by hospital/department size and staffing).Leading with Your Heart: Interpersonal leadership with emotional intelligence; maintaining a team that adheres to Quality, Integrity, Compassion, and Service; providing ongoing performance feedback and development; negotiating and mediating conflict in partnership with the Director of Clinical Operations and People Operations Business Partner.Leading with Your Hands: Bringing people together to leverage skills for shared goals; collaborating with other departments; influencing behavior and leading change in a growing organization; overseeing clinical onboarding training schedule and development/implementation of training; providing written performance feedback and development plans annually; planning, scheduling, and leading monthly department meetings; attracting and retaining exceptional team members through meaningful work and career growth.Key QualificationsThe ideal candidate has a minimum of three years of experience in a management or leadership role; experience in specialty veterinary medicine is required.Registered Veterinary Technician licensure preferredExcellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skillsExcellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-taskCapability to work well in a fast-paced environmentAbility to prioritize duties and responsibilities to meet deadlinesHighly professional and able to work with people at all levels of the organizationStandard knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutlookMust be able to work a minimum of 40 hours in the hospital unless otherwise approved by the Hospital Director of OperationsMust be flexible to meet the needs of the department, which includes a mix of after-hours and weekend coverage.
