OverviewJoin to apply for the Unit Clerk OBGYN role at Optum.Crystal Run OBGYN, part of Optum, has an immediate opening for a friendly, patient focused and detail-oriented Unit Clerk OBGYN to join our team. The Unit Clerk OBGYN is responsible for the completion of set processes and protocols. Works cooperatively with all members of the care team to support the vision and mission of the organization, deliver excellent customer service and adhere to Lean processes. Supports the teams in meeting financial, clinical and service goals.Location: 95 Crystal Run Road, Suite 401, Fourth Floor, Middletown, NY 10941Schedule: Monday through Friday for a 37.5-hour work week, between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The schedule will be determined by the supervisor upon hire.Note: This role is with UnitedHealth Group, Optum family of businesses.Primary ResponsibilitiesGreets and registers patients in a prompt, pleasant and helpful manner; instructs, directs, and schedules patients and visitorsReceives payments from patients, issues receipts and posts payment dataAdheres to standards of professionalism set by the Practice and maintains professional appearanceMaintains HIPAA confidentiality in all communications regarding patient, Practice and staffWorks as part of a team focused on quality patient care; supports on-site training for new Patient Services employeesKeeps informed of new/revised Policy and Procedures, Standards of Care and incorporates these into practiceAttends mandatory quarterly staff meetings/huddles and completes mandatory education timelyHandles difficult situations with tact, professionalism and HEARTAccurately documents patient complaints and concerns and escalates appropriatelyMaintains attendance, punctuality and a positive work attitudeInteracts with clinical staff to keep patients informed of appointment statusVerifies insurance eligibility and coverage; confirms demographic and insurance information at time of visitScans insurance cards and photo IDs into the system; reviews and completes registration forms; obtains required signaturesProvides and reviews Authorization to Release Health Information upon patient requestDiscusses balances due and collects payments as required; activates MyChart per guidelines; provides After Visit Summary per guidelinesExecutes end-of-day check process to total and balance collectionsManages check-in process in EPIC; schedules/cancels/reschedules as ordered by physicianObtains HMO referrals as needed for maximum reimbursementCommunicates with management or other departments using appropriate templatesMaintains supplies and equipment; keeps reception and waiting areas neat and organizedCloses office as needed and may be required to set the alarmMaintains clear and professional communication with internal and external customersDemonstrates flexibility in schedule to meet patient and office needsParticipates in rotating schedule for holidays and weekends, if applicableCross-trained in all specialties to ensure continuity of serviceMaintains kiosk representative station when assigned; assists patients with check-in and inquiriesPerforms other tasks as required by supervisory/managerial personnelResponds to emails promptly and professionallyRequired QualificationsHigh School Diploma/GED (or higher)1+ years of customer service or healthcare-related experienceIntermediate computer proficiency (including multi-site web browsing with multiple monitors)Preferred QualificationsExperience as a receptionist in a healthcare settingExperience with electronic health records (EPIC)Experience with scheduling programsAbility to learn and apply job functions and basic medical terminologySoft SkillsAbility to work independently and as part of a team; good judgment and accountabilityStrong organizational and time-management skillsAbility to multi-task and meet deadlinesAbility to work under pressure in a fast-paced environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skillsPay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education and work experience. The hourly pay range for this role is $16.00 to $27.69 per hour for full-time employment.
