OverviewThe Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center is located in Clarksburg, West Virginia and serves a veteran population of approximately 70,000 in north central West Virginia and adjacent counties in Maryland, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center provides primary care and basic mental health services at four CBOCs. The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center is located on a 16-acre site adjacent to the Veterans Memorial Park and the West Virginia State Nursing Home.QualificationsTo qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA PolicyDegree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicineThe degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completedCurrent - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of ColumbiaResidency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification(NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) - b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) -OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) - which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiencesResidents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs)PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e. - not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basisPRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privilegedrather - they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervisionAdditionally - surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPsProficiency in spoken and written EnglishPreferred Experience: Board Certified Reference: For more information on this qualification standard - with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st of each monthEligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filledDuties will include but are not limited to: Provide comprehensive patient care in the form of consultative inpatient careManage patients with ongoing medical conditions both in the acute care and intensive care inpatient settings - in collaboration with other services of the LAJ VAMCInterview - examine - selects diagnostic testing appropriately - and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care at all points in the process from admission to dischargeCommunicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient careWork in conjunction with mid-level providersProcedural skills may include EKG interpretation - TPA administration - and simple vent managementConsultative input to other service lines in inpatient careParticipate in Committee StructureDemonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviewsComplete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rule and Regulations of the Medical StaffRefer patients to subspecialists or other professionals as appropriatePatient discharge summaries to be signed within 7 daysOther duties as the in-house medicine attending physician - which include but are not limited to addressing requests for transfer to Medicine Service from outside facilities and urgent/emergent general medicine consults Other duties as assignedWork Schedule: 7 days on/7 days off - 12 hour shifts from 7AM or 7PMShifts may include nights - days - weekends and holidaysHours subject to change depending on the needs of the facilityVA offers a comprehensive total rewards packageVHA Physician Total RewardsRecruitment/Relocation Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized Pay: Competitive salary -
