Responsibilities include:Provide primary eye care including comprehensive eye examinations, problem-focused examinations, and contact lens fittings.Triages acute eye-related issues and provides urgent eye care including appropriate testing to diagnose, treat and manage ocular health conditions.Collaborate with ophthalmology department specialists and members of the healthcare community.Participate in teaching and research.Use professional judgment to resolve a wide range of issues and adhere to campus policies and procedures.QualificationsDoctoral degree in optometry issued by an accredited school / college of optometryOptometry residency trainingThorough knowledge of optometry and skills essential to the duties of the positionThorough knowledge of eye disease diagnosisAbility to communicate findings of examinations to patients effectivelyStrong communication and presentation skillsAbility to work with diverse client groupsAbility to provide direction and guidance to less experienced staffAbility to work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and healthcare community across the campusEffective interpersonal skillsProfessional skills in delivering eye care, treatment, and diagnostic servicesDemonstrated ability to use electronic medical record systemsSpecial ConditionsMay need to travel to satellite clinicsMust be able to work various hours including evening or Saturday clinicsEmployment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physicalOther Requirements:Vaccination compliance may be required; follow University policy on Vaccination Programs and any applicable public health directivesLife-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) may require hands-on practice and in-person skills assessmentAbout UC San Diego HealthUC San Diego Health Sciences comprises the School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science, and the Student Health and Well-Being Department.
