Overview The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek an Emergency Medicine Physician to join the Department of Emergency Medicine. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience; adjunct faculty positions are also available. Position responsibilities include directing and providing licensed medical care in emergency medicine, diagnosing and treating patients, educating and collaborating with staff, medical students, residents and others, and participating in clinical research. The physician will manage complex and unpredictable emergent situations and practice within the Medical Center’s policies, procedures, and protocols while adhering to key results areas of the Medical Center. Department/Division overview: The Department operates across multiple locations, including the University Hospital Emergency Department, East Hospital Emergency Department, and Advanced Urgent Cares, treating approximately 120,000 patients in the Emergency Departments and 75,000 patients in the Advanced Urgent Cares annually. The department offers two residency programs: the Emergency Medicine (EM) Residency Program and the Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine (EM/IM) Combined Residency Program. Research is a core mission supported by various federal and industry grants. The department includes the Division of Ultrasound Medicine and the Division of Basic and Translational Science. Duties and Responsibilities Directs and provides patient care, including teaching and supervision of medical students and residents in the Emergency Department, Advanced Urgent Cares, or other approved locations. Depending on candidate experience and department need, clinical positions may be predominantly or wholly in the Advanced Urgent Care environment. Academic and educational development responsibilities include teaching, research, and service as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Full-time academic tracks may include tenure track, clinical excellence, clinical educator, and clinical scholar, based on candidate experience and department needs. Requirements Completion of an accredited residency training program Current license to practice medicine from the State of Ohio Medical Board Board certification or eligibility from the American Board of Emergency Medicine Active certification from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) How to Apply Application materials must include a cover letter and Curriculum Vitae. They will have earned an MD, DO, PhD or other terminal degree. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years, with potential reappointment. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching and/or research. Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) — Persons with titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have tenure. They will have earned a doctorate (PhD), MD, DO or other terminal degree. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD/DO may also be involved in clinical care. Research Faculty (regardless of rank) — Persons with titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. They will have earned a PhD or other terminal degree. Research faculty are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years, with principal focus on research.
