Position Overview The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively with a physician, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients. The NP educates patients and/or their families to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health, and intervene in acute or chronic illnesses. The NP seeks opportunities for professional growth through participation in continuing education seminars, journals, and discussions with the collaborative physician. Minimum Qualifications Education, Certification, and Licensure Graduate of a CCNE-accredited nursing program with a Master's degree in Nursing. Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia. National Certification by one of the recognized APRN certification centers. BLS Certification required, with additional Advanced Life Support training at the department's discretion. Preferred Qualifications Experience Two years of related clinical experience. Core Duties and Responsibilities The following statements describe the general nature of work for this position. They are not all-inclusive, and other duties may be assigned. Conduct comprehensive health assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, cognitive, and personal assets and limitations, with an emphasis on wellness, tailored to the patient's age and development. Establish medical diagnoses; order and evaluate diagnostic studies; perform and monitor therapeutic procedures; assess and manage follow-up plans. Prescribe medications independently as allowed by WV state law; refer to specialists when necessary. Record and document health appraisal data to maintain and coordinate services. Manage time effectively, maintain professional relationships, and interact interpersonally. Serve as a resource to staff and implement educational programs to improve patient management. Maintain current knowledge through continuing education, transferring knowledge as needed when patients are referred. Participate in developing, executing, and reviewing clinic policies. Provide services following clinic policies. Arrange for or refer patients to needed services not available at the clinic. Ensure proper maintenance of patient health records. Participate in periodic reviews of patient health records. Adhere to the facility's Compliance Plan. Provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating professional responsibility and accountability. Maintain current CPR certification. Physical Requirements Must meet the following physical demands, with accommodations as needed: Walking and standing most of the time. Occasional patient lifting with assistance. Frequent reaching, handling, and fingering of instruments and equipment. Ability to hear differences in heartbeat and breathing. Near-visual acuity for reading gauges and dials. Working Environment Standard outpatient clinical setting, with exposure to communicable diseases as per OSHA guidelines. Skills and Abilities Effective verbal communication with patients and staff. Motor coordination and manual dexterity. Clerical perception for record and chart preparation. Ability to care for patients across all ages within the scope of service. Adaptability to changing work schedules. Ability to work closely with patients, doctors, and families. Ability to work to hospital and nursing standards. Effective stress management.
