Thrive Here.Position summaryThe Advanced Practice Professional (APP) has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of pediatric hospitalist patients, including biological, social and psychological assessments. The APP coordinates involvement of medical specialty teams to develop a comprehensive plan, reviews the plan of care with the clinical team, directs care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and coordinates discharge planning as applicable. The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students.Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Such service may include, but is not limited to:Minimum Qualifications For Nurse PractitionerGraduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in NursingNational Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification CentersLicensure, or eligibility for licensure, as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West VirginiaBLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the department's discretionExperiencePediatric and/or acute care experience preferredEligible new graduates will be consideredPreferred QualificationsACPNP or PNP preferredMinimum Qualifications For Physician AssistantBachelor’s Degree as Physician Assistant or Master’s Degree as Physician Assistant requiredGraduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant (PA) training program requiredCertification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants requiredMust be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic MedicineBLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the department's discretionEducation, Certification, and/or LicensureMaster’s level degree as Physician Assistant preferredCore duties and responsibilitiesManages comprehensive and individualized care for pediatric hospitalist patients and their families in the inpatient phase and immediate post-discharge in the ambulatory settingCompletes daily rounds; consults and/or pre-procedure evaluationsCompletes integrated assessmentsOrders additional tests or consults as appropriate in collaboration with pediatric faculty or per clinical guidelinesPerforms and communicates results of diagnostic tests following clinical guidelinesConsults with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findingsPerforms comprehensive clinical evaluations including child abuse screenings and documents findingsFacilitates patient discharge by coordinating services and tests for outpatient follow-upDevelops a comprehensive plan of care including teaching, medication reconciliation, discharge planning and referralsDemonstrates expertise across the pediatric age continuumIdentifies unstable or complex cases and facilitates interventionsRecognizes emergencies and initiates careEvaluates patients and coordinates follow-up procedures in ambulatory settingsAssists in collection of outcome measuresDemonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoningUses equipment safely; bases decisions on scientific principles and standards of careUtilizes teaching strategies for staff, students, patients and familiesPromotes learning by aligning with patient/family needsUpdates knowledge throughout the year and completes clinical competenciesServes as a resource for staff and provides educational programsParticipates in community programs and distributes literature as appropriateDocuments plans of care and evaluations clearly in the medical recordCollaborates with leaders and staff to improve patient outcomesLeads changes in pediatric hospitalist practice to improve outcomesWorks with medical and nursing staff for problem solving and professional supportInitiates interdisciplinary approaches to care, program development and educationSupports innovation in care delivery for pediatric patients and familiesParticipates in committees and task forcesDocuments hours and submits billing reports as appropriateReviews and interprets data and recommends changes as neededParticipates in clinical trials and research studies with the Principal InvestigatorAssists faculty, Administrators and Directors in outcome/quality measuresOther duties/projects as assignedPhysical requirementsThe physical demands described are representative of those needed to perform the essential functions.
