Psychiatrist (Physician)

OverviewThe staff Psychiatrist (Physician) for the outpatient settings in the Mental Health Division (MHD) of the VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS). The psychiatrist's primary duties are, but not limited to:Carrying a caseload and providing consultation to other mental health and non-mental health clinical programs.Work in one or more Mental Health programs located in the Portland metropolitan area or in other urban or rural areas in Oregon. Some mental health programs are co-located in VA primary care clinics. Telemedicine approaches may be used to provide clinical care.May be asked to supervise residents and fellows, engage in leadership activities, or develop medical services in the inpatient and/or outpatient arenas. Works as an integral part of patient care, teaching and research activities, which are shared with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU); as such, the physician must qualify for a faculty appointment with OHSU and be board certified in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.There will be an expectation that the physician will have strong communication and/or team-building skills. The MHD utilizes an interdisciplinary team model of patient care to deliver biopsychosocial treatment for Veterans, with MHD physicians functioning as core members of these treatment teams. A physician in the MHD at the VAPORHCS is a licensed, independent provider who is highly skilled in the evaluation and treatment of patients with a broad range of behavioral health problems. The physician will be Board Certified (or Board-Eligible) in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) and BenefitsThis position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
