The Department of Licensing (DOL) seeks dedicated individuals to serve on the Motorcycle Safety Education Advisory Board (MSEAB). This is a volunteer board position established under RCW 46.20.520 to assist the Director of Licensing in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the state's motorcycle operator training and education program. The Board provides feedback and recommendations to the DOL on motorcycle safety education matters, with the aim of reducing crashes and saving lives. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to motorcycle safety and to shape rider education and training programs in Washington. We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds who are committed to motorcycle safety. Responsibilities Advise the DOL on curriculum development, instructor qualifications, and program administration for motorcycle operator training. Monitor the effectiveness of existing training programs and recommend improvements. Review and provide input on the motorcycle skills testing process. Contribute to the development and promotion of public awareness campaigns focused on motorcycle safety. Participate in regular board meetings (at least two public meetings per year, plus potential additional working meetings). Provide feedback to the DOL on motorcycle safety education matters, including potential legislative impacts when requested. Collaborate with fellow board members and DOL staff to achieve the board's objectives. Qualifications & Requirements The MSEAB consists of seven members appointed by the Director of the DOL, with specific composition requirements outlined by law. Ideal candidates fit into one of the following categories: Active Motorcycle Riders or Members of Non-Profit Motorcycle Organizations focused on safety (three positions). Member of the Public representing general interests in motorcycle safety (one position). Motorcycle Safety Instructors (two positions). A valid Washington State driver's license with motorcycle endorsement (for either two-wheeled or three-wheeled motorcycles). Commitment to attending board meetings; failure to attend two consecutive meetings without prior approval may result in removal. Knowledge and experience in motorcycle safety and education. Term & Commitment Members serve a two-year term, with the possibility of reappointment. The Board holds public meetings at least twice per year, with agendas published 30 days in advance. Additional working meetings may occur. This is a volunteer position; members are not financially compensated. You contribute directly to rider safety in Washington.
