The FORGE Sensor Specific Processing (SSP) Team works on software that processes legacy Space Based Infrared Sensor (SBIRS) data within the FORGE framework. The team uses Agile methods to deliver software across the full lifecycle.Position OverviewAs a Principal Software Engineer or Sr. Principal Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, documentation, testing, deployment, and debugging of software applications. This includes researching, identifying, and implementing solutions to complex, multi-disciplinary software problems.Essential FunctionsSoftware engineering support for multi-language (C/C++, Python, and Java) and complex software systemsNew feature implementation that enables smooth integration with pre-existing systemsExperience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)Software development using Agile MethodologyUtilizing Jira to document bugs and enhancementsEnhance usability, performance, and maintainability of systems via analysis and bug fixesCoordinate, integrate, and resolve defects in conjunction with the test teamQualificationsBasic QualificationsPrincipal Software Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in STEM and 3 years experience, or a PhD.Senior Principal Software Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in STEM and 8 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in STEM and 6 years experience, or a PhD and 4 years of experience.Linux experienceC/C++ and Python proficiencyObject Oriented Programming (OOP) experienceAbility and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needsAbility to obtain and maintain a US DoD Secret security clearance (current active or recently inactive within past 2 years); must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearancePreferred QualificationsOO design pattern and modern data structure experienceConfiguration management software experience (e.g., Git)Experience with containerizationSoftware development and troubleshooting in a team environmentLegacy software and modernization experienceJava and shell scripting experienceAgile development experienceAtlassian Tool Suite experienceTechnical leadership experienceFull software development lifecycle experienceFamiliarity with OPIR and EOIR sensors and simulations is a plusCompensation and BenefitsPrimary Level Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $137,400.00 - $206,000.00The salary ranges are general guidelines; offers depend on the scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long-term incentives may be available depending on the position.
