Our teams work on developing first-in-class and best-in-class therapeutics that provide meaningful advances to patients who live with genetic diseases.The Enzyme Conditions Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based position primarily focused on supporting the scientific and business interests of BioMarin related to lysosomal storage disorders (LSD) MPS IVA, MPS VI, and CLN2, by cultivating current and future thought leaders in academic and clinical medicine at the local, regional and national level through in-depth, fair-balanced scientific engagement and strategic insight gathering.MSLs are the primary communicators of BioMarin science within a specific geography with healthcare providers and other key stakeholders and are viewed as peer scientific experts in designated therapeutic areas. MSLs combine their strong business acumen, market awareness, and clinical expertise to serve as a conduit of information to internal cross-functional stakeholders in support of business planning and product this role, you will identify clinical and post-marketing study investigators in alignment with the LSD Medical Affairs objectives, providing actionable information and insights to internal stakeholders that may enhance the value and appropriate use of BioMarin products. You will also be responsible for supporting the initiation and development of External Research proposals. The MSL must possess in-depth knowledge of BioMarin's LSD approved products (Naglazyme, Vimizim, and Brineura), agents in the pipeline, and all associated disease state areas. The MSL is expected to be a team player and possess the capacity to coordinate and manage initiatives or partnerships with external partners independently or with a minimum amount of oversight. This position will report to the US Medical Unit Lead within Global Medical Affairs (GMAF) and will work closely with GMAF partners as well as Commercial and Clinical Teams. Based on therapeutic needs and product life cycles, this MSL will focus on certain responsibilities to a greater or lesser degree.RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Execute LSD medical MSL plans and tactics within assigned territory to meet scientific objectives and company-defined goals for products both marketed and in developmentProvide disease state and product specific education across the LSD product lifecycle to relevant health care providersServe as a medical/scientific resource through answering unsolicited medical questions and addressing other related medical information issuesEngage in scientific exchange and provide feedback on emerging clinical/competitive trendsIdentify, document, discuss and communicate insights to internal stakeholdersMaintain clinical and technical expertise in relevant therapeutic areaPartner with members of the Medical Unit, including Medical Diagnostics and Scientific Communication, and compliantly collaborate with Commercial Marketing and Sales colleaguesProvide support for any relevant BioMarin clinical trials including but not limited to the following: site evaluation and identification; recruitment; investigator meetings; external expert identification; and study managementSupport the clinical department by communicating potential investigators for other BioMarin products in developmentSupport the implementation and coordination of external investigator-initiated researchParticipate in local, regional, and national meetings/conferences in support of all scientific and medical objectivesWork with internal Medical Affairs partners to develop and execute a territory plan designed to support and meet strategic medical objectivesProvide input to and maintain internal documentationReview scientific journals, lead and participate in internal journal clubsServe as a scientific resource to commercial and marketing partners. Participate in sales team training, medical updates, scientific presentations, journal clubs, and other approved meetingsHave responsibility for assigned special projects and mentoring of other team membersSelf-development: Develops and communicates a professional growth plan. Takes responsibility for and actively manages their professional development. Continually educates self on global market issues, trends, and product knowledge as it pertains to specific business responsibilities in key therapeutic areasAssure compliance with BioMarin operational guidelinesExperience and requirements:5 or more years of relevant clinical/industry experience3 or more years as an MSL is preferredExperience in rare genetic disorders/LSDs preferredExperience in product launch, development, and execution preferredKnowledge of regulations impacting Medical Affairs and field activities in the pharmaceutical industryAbility to identify and communicate strategic insights within the organizationExcellent oral and written communication, organization, and interpersonal skillsProficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and WordExperience with using CRMS tools such as SalesforceProven track record as a team playerExperience as both an individual contributor and with project managementAbility to work in a virtual environmentPosition may require ~60% travel for field and home office obligations but will be variable based on territory needs.EducationMaster's degree in a science required and terminal degree (doctoral level) preferredNote: This description is not intended to be all-inclusive, or a limitation of the duties of the position. BioMarin considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
