The Center is outfitted with video monitoring equipment in eachof the 24 exam rooms. The space is equipped with LearningSpace, a web-basedtechnology, which allows video recording of the SP encounters, and also allowsfaculty to view live and students to review the encounters after the event, allowing for feedbackand assessment.During each of the blocks there is aconcentration on a specific group of organ systems except in the first blockwhen a cursory introduction to medical interviewing and the physicalexamination is presented. Therefore, the interview and physical exam elementsemphasized are focused on those organ systems.The first year Doctoring Course hasbeen divided into blocks:Block 1: Molecular Bases and Life and Disease (MBLD)Block 2: Musculoskeletal Neurologic (MSNS 1)Block 3: Neurological Sciences (NS 2)Block 4 Cardiovascular Hematology (CV-Heme)Block 5: Pulmonary Renal Acid Base (PRAB)The academic year begins the1st week in July and ends in mid-May.Year2 is compressed, beginning the 2nd week of July andending in mid-December. Thesecond year Doctoring Course has also beendivided into blocks:Block 1: GI, metabolism, Diabetes, Nutritional Science (GIMDN)Block 2: Reproduction, Endocrine, Behavior through the Life Span (REBLS)The class of 120 students has been divided into halfwith 1/3 of theclass attending class on Tuesday,Wednesday, or Thursday afternoon from 12:45-5:45 pm, approximately every other week.Each of these groups is further divided into cohorts of three students each andassigned to a physician coach (Cohort Faculty). Assigned student facultypairings remain the same during the semester to ensure thateach student is monitored for adequate progress. Module Faculty members alsoassist in teaching physical examination and otherskills. Module Faculty are present at each session and are responsible for 6 students.The successful candidate willfulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department,actively participate in teaching, clinical service, and/orscholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of Assistant,Associate or Full Professor.The University of Arizona College ofMedicine - Phoenix anchors the 28-acre Phoenix Biomedical Campus in the heartof the Valley of the Sun. For more information aboutworking at the University of Arizona and relocations services, please visit talent.arizona.edu.Duties & ResponsibilitiesAttend all assigned Clinical Skills & AssessmentSessions.Teach interviewing and physical exam skills to 1stand/or 2nd year UA medical students in a structured setting usingstandardized patients (SP).Prepare for each session by completing required readingand viewing video of the portions of the physical exam that will bepracticed at that particular session.Direct student learning with a focus on proficienthistory taking using Patient-Centered Interviewing techniques (includingemotion seeking and emotion validation tools aswell as motivational interviewing tools)Demonstrate physical examinations with efficiency andscore students accurately.Develop documentation skills to promote concise,precise, valid entries into the medical record.Proficiently navigate and utilize the SharePointwebsite and LearningSpace application to access videos, view cases,and enter assessments and evaluations.Demonstrate an approachto critical thinking to enable the student to develop initially broad and then focused differentialsbased on various standardized patient (SP) presentations.Additional duties may be assigned.Minimum QualificationsMD or DO.Board Certified at the time of appointment.Licensed to practice medicine in Arizona at the time ofappointment.Dedicated to delivery of Patient-centered dividuals who are selected for employment and do NOTcurrently hold a faculty title with The University of Arizona College ofMedicine-Phoenix, will be required to obtain faculty status.
