Assistant Director of Mortuary OperationsJoin to apply for the Assistant Director of Mortuary Operations role at NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, accidents, suicides, sudden health issues, unattended deaths, correctional facility deaths, or suspicious/unusual circumstances, including applications for cremation permits.Our core values—CARES: Commitment, Accountability, Resilience, Excellence, and Service—guide our work and interactions.ResponsibilitiesReport to and assume duties of the Deputy Director during their absenceSupervise staff reporting to the Deputy DirectorManage Forensic Mortuary Technicians – Levels 2 and 3, ensuring effective operationsConduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to staffCoordinate with leadership, staff, and external partners to optimize servicesHandle administrative functions such as personnel matters, meetings, data analysis, and reportingAssist with personnel management, training, protocol updates, and schedulingPerform user testing of CMS and attend related meetingsConduct borough site visits and field operations as neededPerform other duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent plus one year of mortuary/autopsy experienceFor higher levels, additional experience is required: two years for Level II, four years with supervisory experience for Level III.Preferred SkillsConflict resolution skillsProficiency in Microsoft Word and ExcelStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsAdditional InformationThis position is open to qualified persons with disabilities under the 55-a Program.
