Job Description

OverviewA General Manager must be committed to inspiring our team, helping our customers succeed, and growing the business with integrity. This is a professional level sales and management position capable of supporting functions on both sides of the business. The role requires understanding of store systems, automotive systems, parts knowledge, and the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and assist with DIY projects. The position is exempt and requires a minimum of 50-55 hours per week, with a typical schedule of 5-6 days per week, 11 hour shifts, including rotating nights and weekends, and a one hour lunch. Additional hours may be required based on staffing, store conditions, sales targets, and other business demands.Note: This description includes essential responsibilities, qualifications, and work conditions for the General Manager role at Advance Auto Parts.ResponsibilitiesAchieve overall store sales goals and service objectivesManage and grow Professional Customer relationships/sales, including building and upholding team accountability to execute Customer action plansHandle selection, hiring, development, performance management, coaching, scheduling, and engagement of store team membersEnsure execution of all inventory and operational standardsCoach all team members to meet customer expectations (DIY and Professional)Assume manager on duty responsibilities (touch base, coaching, floor/phone management, task assignment, safety, opening/closing duties)Lead change management effortsFoster diversity and a respectful environment for customers and team membersSecondary ResponsibilitiesProvide DIY services including battery installation, testing, wiper installation, etc.Assist District/Region in other functions upon requestSuccess FactorsFriendly communicationAbility to locate and stock partsSafety knowledge and skillsAbility to become ASE P2 certified or ASE-ready equivalentAbility to execute and train on project and product quality recommendationsAdvanced parts lookup and sourcingAbility to source from multiple channels including special order, FDO, and secondary sourcesAbility to execute and train all store operational processes and procedures, and testing/diagnostic equipment for DIY servicesAbility to execute and train inventory systems and store equipmentAbility to execute and train POS and Parts lookup systemsAbility to review and analyze P&L statementsAbility to recruit, select, hire, and develop quality team membersAbility to build and grow relationships with Professional CustomersEssential Job SkillsWorking knowledge of automotive systems is preferredSpeak and write English; Spanish a plus; communicate effectively and build relationships with customers, peers, and managementProficient with Microsoft Word and Excel; PowerPoint preferredAbility to calculate figures such as discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit percentAbility to review and analyze business reports, including P&LHold others accountable, inspect work quality, and provide constructive feedbackAbility to work various days, evenings, and weekends as neededPrior Experience2-3 years of experience managing a team of 10-20 in a fast-paced retail environmentSuccessful experience managing profitability with demonstrated financial and business acumenEducation and CertificationsHigh school diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree in business or a related area preferredMust have a valid drivers licenseAAS/ASE certifications preferred but not requiredPhysical DemandsThe physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
