Senior Software Engineer, BigLake, Iceberg REST CatalogGoogle's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search.The BigLake Team's mission is to evolve BigQuery into the world's best data lakehouse platform. Apache Iceberg is rapidly emerging as the de facto table format for the modern lakehouse, allowing many engines to operate on a single copy of data to power interoperable data and AI workloads with high performance and low cost.ResponsibilitiesHelp customers succeed with BigLake.Lead the execution of projects spanning multiple quarters and multiple engineers.Design, implement, test and review new BigLake features, contributing to Google Cloud's overall engineering vision and road map for Apache Iceberg.Work on projects spanning BigQuery and the open-source data processing ecosystem.QualificationsBachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.5 years of experience with software development.3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.Experience with C++, Java and system design.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.Experience working within the open data processing ecosystem (Apache Iceberg, other open table formats, Apache Spark, Trino or other data processing engines).Google is proud to be an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
