OverviewMO-SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital 1201 GrandWorker Type: RegularJob Summary: Care Partners are responsible for meeting the basic needs of patients by providing skilled levels of bedside patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Care Partners also perform clerical duties necessary to the functioning of the nursing unit. Responsibilities General Patient Care: Carries out patient plans of care under the direction of the Registered Nurse; delivers care with aseptic technique, medical terminology and equipment; assists nurses and physicians with procedures; operates equipment safely; performs unit clerical duties; prepares rooms; assists with meals and nourishment; engages with patients, families, and visitors; rounds with purpose; directs service recovery; maintains supplies and equipment. Safety and Comfort: Correctly places restraints as needed; operates cardiac monitor functions; monitors for safety and comfort of patients. Vital Signs/Measurement: Completes Point of Care Testing as approved; obtains vital signs; measures abdominal girth and weight; tracks intake and output. Mobility and Exercise: Applies Pneumatic Stockings; ambulates, turns and positions patients. Respiratory Care: Assists with incentive spirometry and cough/deep breath; sets up oxygen therapy; monitors pulse oximetry; provides tracheostomy care and suctioning (oral and tracheal as assessed). Wound Care: Performs dressing changes; cares for pin care site; monitors traction weights. Bowel and Bladder Elimination: Administers enemas; performs straight catheterization and catheter care. Hygiene: Provides daily hygiene and grooming; mouth care; ensure hydration; perineal care and toileting assistance. Specimen Collection: Obtains various specimens as ordered (urine, sputum, blood, stool, etc.). Clerical: Manages reception duties, communicates with physicians, notifies arrivals, assists with admissions/transfers/discharges, updates worksheets and census, ensures proper labeling and requisitions, and completes pre-op and charting tasks. Safety/Infection Control: Practices standard precautions; maintains a safe environment; reports risk management concerns; completes mandatory trainings; communicates patient condition changes to the nurse; documents care; maintains alertness and safety; handles linen and housekeeping tasks as needed. Service: Delivers timely, high-quality care with courtesy and respect; responds to call lights; maintains confidentiality; communicates effectively; collaborates with team; uses resources wisely and supports unit efficiency. Personal Accountability: Demonstrates accountability for own performance; participates in learning experiences and unit goals. Performance Improvement: Participates in PI activities; contributes to unit PI plans and outcomes; supports quality improvement data. Age Appropriate Care: Provides age-appropriate care for infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations; assesses and communicates age-specific patient needs; involves family in decision making. Specialized Care: Provides care for high-risk patients, including restraint alternatives, pain management, and abuse assessment as part of patient safety. Qualifications and Requirements Minimum Education: High School graduate or GED; at least 18 years of age. Post High School vocational/specialized training preferred. Minimum Experience: None Required Course: Completion of learning program with 80% passing score on written and skills performance examination. Working Conditions: Regular exposure to blood-borne diseases; contact with patients; exposure to injuries/illness; unpredictable situations; possible emergency care; irregular hours; high demands. Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing/walking; lift/position/transfer patients; lift supplies; significant reaching, bending, lifting 100+ pounds. Shift: Night Shift Job Type: Employee Department: 1060000037 Med Surg - 5S Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36 Licenses and Certifications Required: State of Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin. Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA). Other resuscitation certifications may be required depending on department.
