OverviewDirector - AI/ML (Central Region) at Slalom. Slalom co-creates modern technology and software products with clients accelerating digital transformation. The Machine Learning team designs and delivers innovative ML solutions as part of intelligent products on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud using core cloud data science tools, MLOps components, and other big data technologies. As a Director, you will be accountable for the overall quality and execution of ML projects.What You’ll DoAccountable for the growth of the ML practice, including driving sales, recruiting, account management, consulting, and all operational aspects.Practice Building – Drive growth of the ML discipline by participating in business development, overseeing delivery work, and thought leadership. Assemble best practices and develop case studies and core deliverables to grow solution offerings.Business Development – Build relationships with executive-level client stakeholders and expand Slalom’s client portfolio. Guide business development activities with Slalom leadership to pursue new and existing client relationships.Team & Individual Development – Lead by example to build a team of leaders and engineers; provide technical thought leadership in ML; support recruiting, onboarding, and development of leaders.Engagement Management – Manage engagement risk, project economics (planning and budgeting), define deliverable content, and ensure client consensus on proposed solutions.Build a culture of collaboration—participate in technical conferences, community groups, write blog articles, and contribute to partner-coordinated workshops.Establish Slalom’s AI/ML market leadership by highlighting industry and technical expertise, client successes, and unique offerings.Advance ML thinking and vision internally and with clients; recommend and implement scalable ML architectures and CI/CD processes for complex engagements.Stay current with new tools and techniques to deliver the best client solutions; collaborate with Product Owners to apply Slalom’s Agile processes and manage project initiation, delivery, and transitions in client-facing roles.Support pre-sales conversations with clients’ technical ML staff; collaborate with stakeholders across Slalom and client organizations to discuss project needs.Ensure successful outcomes for staffed teams; staff, mentor, and develop ML practitioners and engineers; share learnings with the Slalom ML community.Be a trusted partner to clients and uphold Slalom’s values; travel as needed, up to 50% at peak times.What You’ll BringExpertise in cloud-based engineering, AI/ML, and Agile delivery.Experience leading people, including mentorship for ML engineers and architects.Proven ability to grow client relationships and perform organic business development; cross-functional collaboration.Ability to shape and lead a product delivery team from architecture to inception.Excellent verbal and written communication skills for audiences at all levels, including client-facing.Experience acting as a project manager and leading technical delivery teams; implementing ML solutions with two or more cloud frameworks (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Azure ML Studio, Google Vertex AI); deploying ML models in production; Python data science work.Familiarity or strong interest in Generative AI and foundation models; experience with computer vision models (preferred); ability to lead exploratory data analysis; familiarity with Agile delivery methods (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, XP, Lean); experience designing MLOps pipelines or CI/CD.Two or more programming languages in addition to Python (e.g., SQL, Java, C#, R, JavaScript, Go, Spark).Applicant RequirementsMust be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.About UsSlalom is a human-centric technology consulting firm that partners with clients to move faster, dream bigger, and build better tomorrows. Base pay range for Director is $161,000 to $281,000; Senior Principal range is $140,000 to $237,000. Eligible for annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation varies by skills, experience, location, and other factors.
