OverviewJoin HDR as the Highway & Roads Market Sector Director. The Highway & Roads (H&R) market sector is HDR's largest market sector, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally. HDR provides bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning and tolling services.Primary responsibilitiesMarket leadership and business development (approximately 70%)Staff development (20%)Support to operations (10%)Set the vision for HDR’s growth in the market sector and coordinate with regional leadership to implement growth plans and staff developmentPromote HDR services to clients within the market sector and lead client development and pursuit effortsAct as Client Manager for selected key clients and engage in projects as Principal-In-ChargeRepresent HDR in industry associations and develop strategic partnerships, including potential acquisitions as part of HDR’s growth strategyLead the development of area goals and market sector initiatives with Regional Business Group Directors and other leadersMonitor market sector performance, ensure quality delivery, and reinforce HDR’s brand with clients and marketsFoster staff growth and development and recruit prospective market sector employeesDetailed responsibilitiesOversee the creation and implementation of the market sector’s strategic vision and direction, aligning technical and professional services with business group and operations leadershipEngage in client management and development for selected key clientsPromote marketing and delivery of HDR services to clients in the market sectorParticipate in the Transportation Business Group Management Team and collaborate with regional leadership to achieve area goals and market sector initiativesDrive client development using proven capture techniques and support strategic pursuits with client relationshipsDevelop relationships with senior leadership in key client organizations and with other firms in the industryRepresent HDR with industry organizations across the US, Canada, EMEA and APAC regionsStaff development responsibilitiesManage Global Market Sector P&L in coordination with local area managers and coordinate work-sharing across departmentsDrive technical excellence with business class directors and coordinate staff to support project delivery and marketingCoordinate staffing and recruiting plans for key hires and approve strategic hiresParticipate in Annual Performance Conversations for key market sector leadersSupport to operationsAssist Regional Business Group Directors and area managers in delivering professional services for area projects, including client management and profit/Loss monitoringMonitor market sector performance indicators (NFE/NFB, profit, unbilled revenue, AR, losses, investments) and monitor staff workloads to optimize work-sharing and resource useAssist with contract reviews to manage risk, ensure proper staffing, and support QA/QC, and promote quality assurance across the organizationQualificationsPreferred qualificationsMinimum 20 years of experience in planning/engineering in highway or bridge designProfessional engineering license or equivalentLeadership roles within highway/road industry associations (e.g., AASHTO, IBTTA, and similar organizations)Required qualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering or a closely related fieldAt least 12 years of industry experience including leadershipStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong client management and business development experience with a track record of growing/leading a practiceStrong business skills, including budgeting, staffing, and operationsStrong ability to analyze the marketplace and position HDR strategicallyCommitment to HDR’s employee-owned cultureWhat We BelieveHDR is our company.
