Job Description

OverviewTax Senior Manager, SALT - Credits & Incentives at BDO USA. Role involves advising clients on credit & incentive opportunities, developing strategies, and providing SALT expertise to clients in coordination with Core Tax Principals and Directors.Job DutiesResearch: Identifies complex credits & incentives situations; outlines issues and sources; analyzes facts; develops relationships with in-state and out-of-state Department of Tax (DOT)/Department of Revenue (DOR) and Economic Development personnel.Tax Compliance: Conducts detailed reviews of income tax returns; identifies significant statutory credit opportunities; evaluates client compliance processes and provides customized automation solutions for annual credits & incentives reporting.Tax Consulting: Drafts credits & incentives memorandums and other documentation; reviews client operations to identify jurisdictions with opportunities; applies tax sub-specialties; ensures engagement letters are adopted; assists in developing consultative strategies; manages client expectations.Tax Controversy: Drafts responses to notices; represents clients before tax authorities on credits & incentives issues; assists with exam support.Tax Related Software: Utilizes research databases and other software for assigned tasks.Tax Specialization: Provides technical client service on credits & incentives matters; conducts negotiations; drafts technical memoranda.Strategy Development: Reviews studies to identify alternative actions; develops ideas to maximize credits & incentives; assists with researching strategies; suggests marketing approaches for new client acquisition.Other duties as required.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervises day-to-day workload of STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates; reviews work product.Trains staff on relevant tax software; evaluates performance and assists in professional development;Delivers performance feedback and conducts evaluations; acts as Career Advisor to STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates as appropriate.Education & QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, required.Master's degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.D., preferred.ExperienceEight (8) or more years of prior SALT/credits & incentives experience; experience supervising tax professionals on projects/engagements; experience preparing and/or reviewing tax provisions (preferred).License/CertificationsCPA certification or other relevant certification, required.SoftwareProficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word); familiarity with standard tax applications and research tools (preferred).Other Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesExcellent verbal and written communication; strong analytical and research skills; strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task in deadline-driven environments; leadership and team-building capabilities; executive presence; ability to work with professionals at all levels; advanced knowledge of tax standards and credits & incentives resources.About UsEqual Opportunity Employer, including disability/vets.
