Job Description The Senior Technician, Service Shop provides technical support and expertise by performing advanced diagnosis and repairs to a variety of MNAO owned vehicles. Serves as the subject matter expert for all technical matters in the Service Shop and supports product investigations and validations for a variety of technical documents or procedures. Collaborates with Technical Services Division (TSD) teams to support department activities by providing technical expertise and guidance. This role also conducts pre-delivery inspections and routine maintenance or repairs for employee lease vehicles. Major Responsibilities * (60%) Vehicle Diagnosis and Repair * Investigate, report and repair MNAO buy-back and dealer non-repairable vehicles, including diagnosing root causes, documenting findings, and completing necessary repairs to restore the vehicle. * Use Mazda service information, diagnostic tools, and equipment to pinpoint problems and determine appropriate repairs of MNAO owned vehicles. * Complete all open campaigns for employee lease vehicles ensuring required updates and repairs are performed in a timely manner. * Serve as subject matter expert for complex diagnostic concerns, providing advanced technical guidance and problem-solving support. * Perform basic vehicle maintenance and repairs, as well as Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) to ensure vehicles meet quality standards as needed. * (30%) Technical Support * Support the Product Quality team's investigations and repairs as needed. * Document and report product quality concerns through Hotline or Field Quality Information Report (FQIR) reporting. * Validate workshop manual repair procedures, Technical Service Bulletins, and Service Campaigns. * Develop draft repair procedures by documenting step-by-step methods, tools and materials required, and conduct time studies to analyze repair efficiency, identify areas for improvement, and establish standard repair times. * Conduct time studies to validate warranty labor time standards and provide supporting analysis for dealer appeal reviews. * Support warranty parts investigations by analyzing components and collaborating with cross-functional teams to determine root cause and resolution. * Provide technical expertise to the Accessory department to assist with dealer installation validation and related support activities. * Support special service tool evaluations by offering technical expertise, reviewing functionality and providing actionable feedback. * Provide mentorship and technical support to junior technicians by sharing expertise, troubleshooting techniques, and assisting with vehicle diagnosis and repairs. * (10%) Other Duties * Test tools, equipment, and systems to ensure proper functionality. * Maintain and track accurate inventory of equipment and tools to support efficient workflow and readiness. * Document internal processes to support continuous improvement initiatives and enhance operational efficiency. * Support additional departments, including Motorsports, Marketing and PR as needed. * Performs other duties as assigned * Complies with all policies and standards * The preceding functions have been provided as examples of the types of work performed by employees assigned to this job classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job Work Experience * 4+ years experience as automotive technician including working knowledge of vehicle mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic systems. * 2+ years experience diagnosing and troubleshooting Mazda vehicles. Licenses * Mazda Master Technician Certification - Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) Required * Valid Driver's License - State or Country-Specific Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Required * Advanced Engine Performance Specialist Certification Test (L1) - National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Preferred * Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist (L3) - National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Preferred * Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Specialist (L4) - National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Preferred Knowledge and Abilities * A mechanical aptitude, including solid eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, is necessary. (Developing-Intermediate) * Ability to handle various tools and heavy equipment. (Developing-Intermediate) * Must be well-versed in complex mechanical and electronical systems of vehicles. (Developing-Intermediate) * Strong knowledge of HV and EV systems, including batteries, electric motors, power electronics and charging infrastructure. (Developing-Intermediate) * Ability to use and read tools and equipment with high precision and accuracy. (Developing-Intermediate) * Knowledge of occupational hazards and required safety precautions with the ability to follow procedures to maintain a safe and compliant work environment. (Developing-Intermediate) * Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, and for the safety of company assets and others in the workplace. (Developing-Intermediate) * Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, as well as the ability to learn and effectively utilize other software applications used within the Company.
