Job Description

The General Manager directs the daily operations of the railroad; executes and manages operational processes to maximize efficiency and safety. Oversees and manages overall execution of the railroad operating plans, railroad strategy, safety strategy, process improvement initiatives, and other continuous improvement initiatives in relation to operating targets and Key Performance Indicators that meet or exceed company objectives.The General Manager demonstrates and adheres to the company values of: safety, honesty, ownership, respect and teamwork to ensure successful partnership with customers and employees that result in OmniTRAX’s continued success.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESEnsure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operation and the Federal Railroad Association (FRA)Complete accountability and oversight of 24/7 operations with SAFETY and ENVIRONMENT as the highest priorities next to financial stewardshipManage and ensure customer satisfaction and operational excellenceParticipate in customer meetings to build positive relationshipsAccountable for and manage railroad and terminal financials, budgeting and forecasting; overall financial performance of the railroad to include: P&L, yearly budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and communicating results to senior leadershipAccountable for asset utilization to include: routine evaluation of requirements, capital improvement projects to maximize efficiency; excess assets and facilities offered as revenue sourceDevelop, approve, and conduct periodic review of operating procedures for all railroad and terminal activities to include: technical, operational and support functionsDevelop and maintain safety culture among all staff membersParticipate in and promote regional and/or Corporate initiativesExecute leadership aligned with Company’s strategic goalsOTHER DUTIESRoutine interface with accounting, maintenance, engineering, labor relations and other support teams; communication and coordination with other Corporate departmentsEnsure all new employees receive training per protocol; monitor and participate in training and evaluation of all new hiresWork safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuriesWear required protective equipment such as: hard hats, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glassesWork hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift workPerform other duties and projects as assignedSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESExempt and non-exempt employeesProvide leadership, mentoring and guidance to team with execution of projects; set performance goals, and provide on-going coaching of employees to achieve career objectives, cultivate a high-performance culture; build a leadership pipeline throughout the organizationSet the example, create, and lead the culture of mutual respect, cooperation, and attention to detail for employees to deliver profitable execution on business goalsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESHigh School Diploma/GED5 year’s railroad operations experienceMinimum of two years’ supervisory experience in railroad operationsThorough knowledge of and compliance to General Core of Operating Rules (GCOR), FRA requirements specific to the operation and movement of trainsThorough knowledge of and compliance to railroad operations, including, but not limited to: Transportation, Maintenance of Way, Mechanical, and clerical activitiesDetail oriented and customer focusedLeadership and mentoring skills: develop high performance teamAnalyze data: identify trends reviewing statistical reports and metrics; recommend and implement efficienciesRead, comprehend, and comply with published rules, procedures and manuals, inspection checklists, government regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, memo and other work-related informationIntermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office SuiteDemonstrate problem solving and troubleshooting skills in operational issues resulting in effective resolutionExcellent communication and interpersonal skills;
