Requires a Degree in Medicine, completion of Residency in Psychiatry, and Board Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Salary is determined by tiered scales based on specialty, grade, and location. Responsibilities Provide treatment services including examination, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions affecting the brain, nervous system, substance use disorders, and personality disturbances. Specialize in treating mental illness using biomedical approaches and psychotherapies. Provide assessment, medication management, and disposition of psychiatric patients, including hospitalization when needed. Manage routine, intensive, complex, and emergency evaluations for a range of emotional, psychological, and behavioral disorders. Provide follow-up care for chronic patients with acute disorders and complications, such as psychosis or substance use disorders. Perform initial patient work-ups and exercise independent judgment for professional diagnosis, treatment, and disposition in compliance with HIPAA standards. Maintain high standards of professional practice and ethics; treat patients presenting various DSM-V symptoms and make decisions affecting patient care and duty status as required (e.g., MEB, TDRL evaluations). Document in electronic records (e.g., AHLTA, HAIMS, CHCS) as appropriate. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience may include paid or unpaid work, volunteer service, and interactions with National Service programs. Your resume must clearly describe relevant experience; transcripts may be required if qualifying based on education. Basic Requirements for Physician (Psychiatry) Degree: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. The degree must be accredited by recognized medical education bodies. Foreign medical degrees must demonstrate equivalency to US standards. Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted medical license/registration in the United States or its territories. Graduate Training: At least one year of supervised clinical experience after medical school (internship or first year of residency) in a hospital or accredited institution. Requirements Residency Training: Successfully completed the required accredited residency in Psychiatry and equivalent experience and training of at least 5 years (no substitution of experience for residency).
