You will build and manage a team of engineers with a deep focus on delivering enterprise-wide products to operate in a highly performant and efficient way.Position DescriptionOur Engineering Manager is an engineering leader who works with the engineering staff to innovate and build new engineering solutions, improve and enhance existing solutions as well as leverage engineering solutions to solve critical operational problems.Position ResponsibilitiesWork with your Director to address project dependencies, negotiate and estimate incremental delivery dates for milestones with the stakeholder community, and deliver projects on timeIdentify and raise appropriate project risks, in addition to presenting detailed and implementable solutions or alternativesUnderstand how requirements and design choices may impact systems across multiple areasReport on your team’s progress for project and other key metrics, in addition to presenting detailed and implementable ideas for areas to further improve or influence product or project deliveryInitiate and support performance evaluation of team membersCultivate a culture that motivates all levels of performers to higher levels of achievementBuild and maintain relationships with your team members to support an environment of trustInfluence those you motivate and coach to be receptive to feedback by cultivating a culture that acknowledges and expects individuals to grow and be accountable as a result of the experience gained (growth mindset)Identify where technical or analytical skill gaps put future team deliverables at risk and craft a plan to remediate, consistently challenge team members to share knowledge and learn new technologiesProficiently execute difficult conversations on development and performanceCraft and deliver strategic and well-structured persuasive arguments to drive projects that drive process improvement, enhance cost leadership, and/or customer experienceManage up to leadership as well as give feedback when appropriateAdminister coaching plan(s) and Performance Improvement Plan(s)Craft fully compliant quality documentationCompliant negotiation and execution of warning administration and/or involuntary terminationDevelop the team budget and be accountable for reporting on results achieved at regular intervalsSignificantly contribute to the team planning process to include surfacing associate level proposalsQualificationsFluency and specialization with Java, GraphQL and SQLExperience with AI and ML technologies including MLflow, VectorDBs, Scikit-learn and LangchainExperience building products of micro-services-oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs and GraphQLExperience building the architecture and design of new and current systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, security, and scaling)Fluency in DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture and Azure DevOps Operational FrameworkExperience with application monitoring tools and performance assessmentsIn-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithmsExperience with solving analytical problems with quantitative approachesAbility to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environmentExemplary ability to design, perform experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmapExperience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to productionExperience10+ years of engineering experience3+ years of hands-on people leadership experience5+ years of experience building large-scale, mission-critical applications2+ years of experience building products with AI and MLThe GEICO PledgeGreat Company: At GEICO, we help our customers through life’s twists and turns.
