This is a full-time opportunity supporting the NHLBI office located in Bethesda, MD.Perform standard technical procedures in mice for investigators, including blood collection, oral gavage, intubation, tail tattooing, and tail vein catheterization.Observe and recognize normal and abnormal mouse behavior and phenotypes, demonstrating excellent mouse handling skills.Assist core staff with various testing methods such as treadmill testing, running wheel studies, and other phenotyping protocols, initially under supervision and eventually pile and organize experimental data results using Excel and other data management tools.Learn and execute complex and highly technical protocols involving multi-day behavioral studies, drug dilution calculations, constant rate infusions, and nebulization procedures.Operate scientific equipment and learn to use new software programs essential for mouse phenotyping experiments.Receive appropriate training and follow SOPs to perform microsurgical municate facility issues and experimental observations with core staff, including unexpected outcomes, errors, or potential issues, and seek guidance or troubleshooting support.Ensure full compliance with animal welfare regulations and NIH facility standards.Manage day-to-day operations of the core facility, including routine inspections and oversight of satellite facilities.Assist investigators with animal transfers between NIH facilities, ensuring proper documentation and handling.Oversee husbandry practices and conduct daily health checks for mice housed in satellite facilities.Review all incoming project study protocols to ensure alignment with regulatory and facility compliance standards.Perform cleaning and disinfection of experimental equipment and laboratory spaces according to established SOPs.Oversee maintenance contracts and servicing schedules for laboratory equipment.Maintain proper operation and servicing of Isoflurane anesthesia systems used in the lab.Serve as the designated safety representative for the laboratory, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.Place orders for supplies and equipment using the NIH POTS purchasing system.Job FamilyLaboratory Technician (Digital)Travel RequiredNoneClearance RequiredAbility to Obtain NACIWhat You Will DoWe are currently searching for a Laboratory Technologist (MPC) to support the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in the Murine Phenotyping Core. Candidates with an ACTIVE PUBLIC TRUST or SUITABILITY are preferred.What Would Be Nice To HaveDemonstrated experience and proficiency in performing highly technical veterinary and/or research procedures in mice.Proven skill in mouse handling and conducting behavioral and veterinary observations.Familiarity with phenotyping methodologies and advanced mouse model research techniques.The annual salary range for this position is $56,000.00-$94,000.00.
