Specialized coding may also include Claims Edit Review and Reconciliation. Reviews, assigns, and sequences ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT and HCPCs codes through review of Inpatient and/or Outpatient clinical documentation and diagnostic results as appropriate for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance.Essential FunctionsAssigns and sequences ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT and HCPCs diagnostic and procedural codes for inpatient and/or outpatient accounts within HonorHealth. Reviews physician documentation & coding for appropriateness & accuracy and makes corrections following Medicare & AMA coding guidelines. Utilizes electronic medical record and computer-assisted coding (CAC) software. Assigns DRGs as applicable. Codes complex accounts specifically related to one of the following work types: Interventional radiology, procedural cardiology, or claims edit review and reconciliation. Addresses NCCI, OCE, LCD, and other coding edits, as plies with system-wide coding practices to meet corporate compliance guidelines and ensures appropriate and effective reimbursement with Patient Financial Services, medical staff and various departments. Reviews and analyzes medical records for accurate ICD and CPT code selection.Maintains weekly communication with providers to ensure timely notification of identified trends that might impact revenue or compliance. Educates assigned providers on appropriate coding and documentation and provide supporting documentation to enhance awareness and corrections needed for accurate coding.Assists Patient Financial Services with interpretation and selection of appropriate ICD/CPT codes and /or other information requested for accurate billing and reimbursement including failed bill parameters.Performs charge reconciliation to ensure all submitted charges are posted timely and balance with total submitted charges. Assigns charges as applicableResolves routine coding issues/problems and appropriately seeks assistance from Supervisor.EducationAssociate's Degree in health related field - PreferredHigh School Diploma or GED - RequiredExperience3 to 5 years' coding in one of the following work types: radiology, interventional radiology, cardiology, or cardiology catheterization laboratory, or equivalent in the radiology or cardiology field. - Preferred2 years coding in one of the following work types: Radiology, interventional radiology, cardiology, or cardiology catheterization laboratory. - RequiredOther Working Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, knowledge of medical record requirements, HIPAA privacy rules, and assigning and sequencing ICD/CPT codes.
