About the OrganizationThe Ohio Conference of the American Association of University Professors (OC-AAUP) is a professional organization established 75 years ago, representing approximately 7,000 college and university professors. It is affiliated with the national AAUP and has more than 20 chapters across Ohio. Its core mission is to preserve and advance academic freedom, shared governance, and the general welfare of professors, while promoting the social good that results from a dynamic, active professoriate.We believe that advocating for the foundational principles of American higher education enhances student achievement and graduates' contributions to our communities.About the PositionPosition: Executive DirectorLocation: Columbus, Ohio, with remote work options.Reports to: Board of Trustees. The Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of organizational success and oversees operations, including:Monitoring developments in state government and establishing contacts with agency heads and legislators; advising the Board on appropriate responses.Generating communications, including legislative testimony, op-eds, and regular communications to the Board, chapter leaders, members, and allied groups.Engaging with current coalitions and fostering additional alliances; assisting AAUP chapters and members, including liaison work with the national office.Managing the Conference budget; maintaining the Conference website and social media; performing administrative duties related to the Conference's activities.ResponsibilitiesOversee all operations and strategic direction of the organization.Monitor relevant developments in state government and maintain relationships with key policymakers.Advise the Board on appropriate responses to legislative and policy changes.Develop and disseminate communications (testimony, op-eds, updates to stakeholders).Foster coalitions and alliances to advance the Conference's policy goals.Support AAUP chapters and members, including liaison with the national office as needed.Manage the Conference budget, finances, and administrative processes.Maintain and update the Conference website and social media presence.QualificationsExceptional time-management and multitasking abilities.Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Experience with state government, particularly the Ohio General Assembly; understanding of the legislative process and ability to work with legislators and staff.Experience in budgeting and financial acumen; demonstrated administrative and record-keeping skills.EducationBachelor's degree in political science, public policy, or a related field. Advanced degree pensation & BenefitsAnticipated starting salary range: $90,000 to $110,000, commensurate with experience.Full benefits package including health insurance with vision and dental coverage, an employer-sponsored retirement plan, and vacation, personal, and sick leave.
