Job Description & Physical Demand AnalysisOverviewPosition Title: Assistant Store ManagerDepartment: RetailReports To (Title): Retail Store ManagerPosition Type: FLSA - Non-ExemptSupervising Staff: (see duties below)The Assistant Store Manager will coordinate and support activities to optimize store revenues and savings, improve productivity, and ensure the delivery of outstanding service to all customers. He/She will be responsible for the efficient and profitable management of the retail location when the store manager is unavailable.ResponsibilitiesOperate in accordance with the established hours of business and ensure proper staffingEnsure general conditions of the store meet high standards at all timesMeet performance standards and goals regularlyControl and minimize store expensesMaintain a supply of cash and change sufficient to meet daily business needsEnsure premises are safe for customers and employees at all timesProvide excellent customer relations, including training employees to greet, thank, or converse with customers and donors, and monitor their performanceSchedule interviews and recommend hiring of store employeesConduct initial and recurrent training, or training in new skills, policies, or proceduresAssist store manager with employee performance evaluation and discussionsAssist store manager in recommending raises for employeesEnforce corporate personnel, loss prevention, and operational policies and proceduresInvestigate and resolve employee complaints, grievances, or conflictsEnsure employees accurately and properly record all hours workedProcess, price, tag, hang, and display merchandise to maximize salesRecommend ways to increase sales and efficiencyDevelop and expand local donor baseEstablish and monitor sound cash-handling procedures consistent with company policyPrepare, review, approve, and/or submit sales reports, invoices, donor logs, cash reports, petty cash requests, as requiredAnswer employees’ questions as to policies and proceduresSchedule and conduct periodic store-employee meetings to discuss new matters or problemsEnsure the store is adequately stocked with merchandise at all timesOrganize back-room production area to optimize merchandise outputTrain employees on security and loss prevention policiesEstablish and monitor cash-handling procedures consistent with company policyEnsure timely bank deposits either personally or by higher managementMaintain cleanliness of the store, including restrooms, donation center, and back roomEnsure safety and security of store assets and premisesConduct employee bag and locker checks as neededPrepare and review banking documents, such as deposit slips, and compare to store reportsResponsible for payroll reconciliation in the absence of the Store ManagerQualificationsSome college preferred. High school diploma, GED equivalency required, or its equivalent in courses of business or marketingTwo (2) years of supervisory experience and two (2) years of retail experienceExperience supervising and training direct reports in all aspects of store operationsMust be able to work flexible hoursSkillsOutstanding organizational skillsAbility to calculate amountsWorking knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applicationsScope of Responsibility & SupervisoryDirectly supervises sales people and production staff. Reports directly to Retail Manager.Special Working ConditionsThe work environment is mostly indoors. Donated goods may be dusty or soiled.
