Base pay range$40.00/hr - $45.00/hrDepartment: EventsJob Title: Event CaptainReports to: Events General ManagerSalary/Rate: $40-$45 (based on experience)Type of position: Part-timeHours: Non exemptOverviewWythe Hotel is a Michelin-recognized hotel housed in a meticulously restored 1901 factory building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The hotel values sustainable practices and delivering discreet, authentic experiences that resonate with discerning guests.Position SummaryEvent Captains are fully responsible for their assigned event from start to finish. The captain sets up the team for a successful service and delivers an exceptional experience to the client. They manage all situations arising during set up, execution, and breakdown of each event.They oversee all day-of aspects of each event, including creating a plan of execution, communicating the plan to the team, directing staff, delegating tasks, motivating the team, liaising with the client, and completing a post-event feedback log. Captains balance management with facilitating service, remaining organized, calm, and gracious under pressure, and setting the tone for each event and the broader events program.Key ResponsibilitiesSet an example of excellence: be an ambassador of hospitality, food & beverage, and service culture with warmth, knowledge, confidence, care, and gracious service.Knowledge and preparation for each event: study the BEO, introduce yourself to the event contact, align timelines, print service documents, and develop a service plan from start to finish.Manage staff: check in with staff to ensure on-schedule setup, ensure AV and porter are available and aligned with the floor plan, and oversee all elements of service.Create and share a clear service plan: delegate assignments and outline staff responsibilities for each event phase.Liaise with client: ensure the client’s needs are met, maintain clear communication, and support a smooth event timeline.Space & facility maintenance: conduct a thorough walk-through, keep client-visible areas clean and presentable, manage lighting and temperature, and ensure appropriate ambiance and background music.Presentation: maintain high professional standards, including dress code compliance for the team.Service: conduct staff with warm authority, interfacing with other departments municate with kitchen: confirm menu items, guest and platter counts, service plan, dietary restrictions, and updates throughout the event.POS responsibilities: ring in all charges into the restaurant system at the end of the night for accounting purposes.Qualifications and SkillsCatering knowledge; 4+ years experience in NYC venues preferred; prior managerial experience preferred.Desire to succeed in special event management with outstanding customer service.Open availability including nights, weekends and holidays.Effective communication with clients and colleagues (verbal and written).Ability to remain calm under pressure, handle stress, and think on your feet.Experience coaching and providing feedback to staff; professional presence at all times.Positive attitude; set a constructive tone for the team.Ability to lift at least 25 lbs and work a full shift on your feet (shifts may exceed 10 hours).Why This Role MattersYou will help create environments for meaningful celebrations, shaping exceptional experiences for guests and fulfilling careers for your team.Wythe WorkplaceThe Wythe Hotel is committed to an inclusive workplace that values diversity.
