OverviewThe Amazon Device Design Team is an inventive R&D group that designs and develops high-profile consumer electronics. What began as Lab126 in 2004 has grown into the Device Design Team behind beloved products like Kindle, Fire tablets, Fire TV, and Amazon Echo. Now, we're looking for an innovative Senior CAD Architect and Model Maker to join us in our mission of creating what's this hybrid role, you'll combine digital precision with hands-on craftsmanship to lead the design and fabrication of experience prototypes for our next generation of consumer products. Bridging the gap between design intent and real-world function, you'll enable cross-functional teams to test, refine, and validate product concepts through immersive, high-fidelity models.ResponsibilitiesCAD Architecture & DesignDevelop detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies for complex consumer product conceptsTranslate design intent into tangible geometry using tools like SolidWorks, Creo, Rhino, and Fusion 360Collaborate with industrial designers and engineers to iterate on form, fit, and functionExperience Prototype DevelopmentLead the creation of interactive, functional prototypes that simulate real-world product useIntegrate electronics, sensors, and mechanical components to mimic the user experienceApply finishing techniques to enhance realism - paint, texture, lighting, and brandingModel Shop LeadershipOversee fabrication workflows, equipment maintenance, and safety protocolsSource materials and coordinate with external vendors for specialized componentsCross-Functional CollaborationWork closely with ID, Engineering, UX research, and leadership to align prototypes with roadmap and innovation prioritiesPresent models with work partners, articulating design rationale and prototype capabilitiesBasic Qualifications7+ years of experience in CAD design and physical model making, preferably in consumer products7+ Expert-level proficiency in CAD software and understanding of fabrication tools (CNC, laser cutting, 3D printing)Strong understanding of human factors, ergonomics, and user-centered designExperience integrating electronics, mechanical systems, and interactive features into prototypesPreferred QualificationsDegree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or Fabrication/Model MakingExperience in wearables, smart home devices, or consumer electronicsKnowledge of sustainability practices in materials and fabricationPassion for innovative problem-solving and a customer-obsessed mindsetAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $239,900/year in our highest geographic market.
