Job Description

The Director, Outreach and Engagement, Protect One Health in Ohio (OHIO) determines objectives and implements the operational strategy for the outreach and engagement components of the initiative. This initiative is highly-visible to the Ohio Governor’s Office and Legislature and has long-term implications for the College of Veterinary Medicine.The Director develops and coordinates complex, cross-functional engagement and educational programs across the College that are aimed at increasing the number of veterinary students originating from rural Ohio, increasing the number of veterinary students who pursue large animal veterinary medicine positions; and incentivizing these newly minted veterinarians to return to and remain in veterinary practices in rural Ohio.The Outreach and Engagement Director is the principle liaison for the Protect OHIO with agricultural stakeholders and rural communities. They leverage their expertise in veterinary medicine and their extensive relationships with stakeholders to identify opportunities and implement outreach, recruitment, and education events with future veterinary students in rural Ohio.Responsibilities include:Developing objectives and implementing the operational strategy for the outreach and engagement components of the initiativeCoordinating complex, cross-functional engagement and educational programs across the CollegeIdentifying opportunities and implementing outreach, recruitment, and education events with future veterinary students in rural OhioLiaising with large animal veterinarians throughout Ohio to provide shadowing and internships/externships for students who are interested in a career in veterinary medicineRequired Qualifications:DVM degree or equivalentMinimum of 12 years in veterinary medicine with a focus on population medicine in food animals and/or equinePrevious supervisory experienceEvidence of development and maintenance of collaborative relationships with agricultural stakeholdersEvidence of effective written and verbal communication skillsUnderstanding of the veterinary profession, especially the diversity of roles and opportunities in food animal and/or equine practiceEligible for Ohio Limited Veterinary LicenseDesired Qualifications:15 or more years in veterinary medicine with a focus on population medicine in food animals and/or equineAt least 1 year of food animal and/or equine rural veterinary practice experience preferredThe university is an equal opportunity employer, including veterans and disability.
