Reporting directly to the Vice President, the position will lead the tax function of Park Lawn including state and local tax, property tax and tax reporting and compliance. The position will collaborate with cross-functional teams as well as with external tax and other service providers. This individual will have two direct reports initially, with the ability to grow out the team over time.Essential FunctionsResponsible for tax compliance in both Canada and the U.S. working directly with our external tax providersPerforms tax planning, reporting and analysisSupports the financial reporting process by preparing quarterly and annual tax provisions and disclosures.Liaises with the company’s external tax consultants on various tax mattersEnsures compliance with federal, state, provincial and other local tax requirementsManages and responds to tax audits and disputes with tax authoritiesManages the filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual indirect tax returns for entities in Canada and the U.S.Advises on tax implications of cross-border transactions and assist in the development and execution of the company’s transfer pricing policy.Provides M&A and transaction support by evaluating tax implications and providing strategic guidance related to the deal teams.Assesses and implements technology and tools to support a more efficient and effective tax and reporting cycle.Keeps abreast of changes in tax regulations which may impact the business and provide recommendations to mitigate potential risks.Supports payroll tax processes both in Canada and the U.S.Collaborates cross-functionally to provide tax advice on business transactions, contracts and strategic initiatives.Creates ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed.Performs projects and other duties as petenciesKnowledge of Canadian and U.S. tax regulations.Strong leadership and interpersonal skillsExperience in managing tax reporting processes in an international context (Canada and U.S.)Communication ProficiencyTeamwork OrientationEthical ConductPersonal Effectiveness/CredibilityDetail OrientationThoroughnessTime ManagementRequired Education, Experience, Certifications and LicensureBachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent combination of education and experience.CPA is preferred.Tax leader who brings a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience.Experience in Canadian and/or US tax reporting and compliance.Ability to travel between the U.S. and Canada.Additional Eligibility QualificationsSkill to analyze data and provide recommendations.Excellent written and oral communication.Must be able to work independently, prioritizing and meeting multiple deadlines.Ability to meet daily deadlines, perform tasks in a timely manner, be a self-starter and resolve issues with minimal supervision.Strong interpersonal skills to work cross-functionally, cross-borders, and with external service providers.An effective decision maker who can create and manage a plan and execute that plan.Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position has direct management responsibilities, including hiring, firing, performance management and disciplinary actions as needed.Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The duties associated with this position are generally performed in an indoor office setting.Equipment used to perform the essential function of this position includes, but is not limited to computer, fax, copier, merchant terminal, multi-line phone system, personal or company owned vehicle.Overtime is sometimes necessary or required.This is an on-site role only.Employees in this role are regularly required to climb, sit, stand, bend, kneel, and frequently lift up to 25 pounds.This position may also require reaching, pushing, and pulling.This position may also be exposed to chemicals and/or blood borne exposure risk is considered: LowTravelThis position may require up to 15% out of area and overnight travel between the U.S. and Canada.Travel is primarily local occurring during the business day only.Other DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
