Candidates must have an active Armed SPO license issued by the District of Colombia (DC), Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), or Security Officers Management Branch (SOMB).Job Skills / RequirementsArmed SPOs shall perform all tasks under the duties outlined within the Post Orders, which the Office of Safety and Security prepares for all shifts on each post. Some of the responsibilities include but are not limited to:Access Control Package Screening (X-Ray Machine)Personnel screening (Hand Wands / Magnetometers)Traffic Control Visitor processingVehicle inspectionCommunications and dispatchingPatrol OperationsEmergency and event responseCorrectly attired in uniform, equipment, and grooming.QualificationsMust be a United States CitizenMinimum of 1 year of experience in law enforcement, or security, or a combination of bothPossess a high school diploma or equivalency; however, collegiate academic coursework or an AA/AS degree is preferredCurrent SPO (Armed) license issued by the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Security Officers Management Branch (SOMB)Pass suitability determinationSPO shall carry a current 9mm Caliber Semiautomatic Pistol, “Qualified” card signed and dated by a certified firearms instructorCertified to carry and shall carry Pepper Spray (Oleoresin Capsicum)Possess a current “CPR/First Aid” card issued by the American Red Cross or equivalentExcellent verbal communication and interpersonal skillsPhysical DemandsSPOs shall be physically able to perform tasks in the performance of assigned dutiesFrequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping up to 12 hours per day, either indoors or outdoorsFrequent contact with the general public, law enforcement, and dispatch center, requiring an ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situationsAbility to remain on post for up to four (4) consecutive hours without sitting, eating, or receiving a breakAbility to remain alert for up to 12 hours, with the ability to mentally and physically react quickly to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situationsAbility to subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals or intervene in a crisisOccasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, climbing stairsTraining RequirementsAll SPOs must complete the training requirements and pass the required written examination.All SPOs must take the following training:40 hours of Initial Weapons TrainingX-ray and MagnetometerFitness for duty certificationEmergency Evacuation ProceduresCode BravoWatch Tour ProceduresCertification Requirements (All)DCSPO Armed LicenseOC Spray CertificationCPR/First Aid CardEducation Requirements (Any)High School Diploma/GEDAssociates DegreeAdditional Information / BenefitsBenefits: Medical Insurance, Life Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision InsuranceScreening Requirements: Drug Screen, Criminal Background Check #J-18808-Ljbffr
