You ensure the project is done right and all deadlines are met. You should be proactive, self-sufficient, and able to productively work out of your home without direct supervision. This role requires a deep understanding of physical layout, bus design, equipment selection, grounding, and constructability. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with utility clients, be self-motivated, and capable of mentoring junior staff. This position offers a clear growth path to becoming a Supervising Engineer, with increasing responsibility for project oversight, client engagement, and team leadership.What You Will Be DoingResponsibilities include, but are not limited to, leading and overseeing the design and preparation of substation physical design drawings and related documentation, including:Substation One Line and Three LineStation General Arrangements & SectionsElectrical DetailsGrounding Plan & DetailsConduit Plan & DetailsControl Cubicle Layout, Sections, Cable Tray, Lighting, and GroundingLow-Voltage AC PanelsLightning ProtectionIllumination Plan & DetailsLeading the design and preparation of engineering studies such as AC Load, Illumination, Grounding, Lightning ShieldingDevelopment of Bill of Materials based on Design CriteriaCoordination with protection & controls, civil / structural, and drafting disciplines to ensure quality deliverablesSupport client meetings, technical discussions, and project planning effortsParticipate in site visits and constructability reviewsInterpreting and incorporating vendor information into design deliverablesApply client standards related to the workPerform/ensure company’s QA/QC processes are followed on all design packagesEnsure compliance with industry codes (IEEE, NESC, NEC) and utility standardsContinuous improvement of job-related engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performanceMentor and guide junior engineers and designersDemonstrate leadership potential to support transition into a SupervisingMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (focus in power systems preferred)8+ years of experience in substation physical design for electric utilitiesProfessional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 monthsPreferred Professional SkillsProficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design toolFamiliarity with substation design standards and practices (IEEE, NESC, utility specs)Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and mentor junior staffStrong initiative and leadership qualities to support career advancementExperience leading substation projects modelled in 3D using Autodesk InventorFamiliarity with substation grounding studies and CDEGSFamiliarity with Agi32 illumination softwareAdvanced user of Microsoft Word and ExcelPay and BenefitsPay Range - There are multiple factors that determine final pay for a position, including experience, skills, location, and contractual provisions.Range: $118,730.00 - $201,840.00Nationwide Remote Office (US99)Working at ICFICF is a global advisory and technology services provider.
