JMT is currently ranked #50 on Engineering News-Record’s list of the Top 500 Design Firms.Position SummaryJMT is currently seeking a full-time Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our companywide geotechnical design practice. This position is based in our newly relocated and growing office in the Easton area of Columbus, OH. This position will support a variety of project types including many high-profile projects across our company footprint in our highways, bridges, aviation, rail & transit, marine and ports, water and wastewater, dams and levees, and buildings and facilities markets. Some of our notable ongoing projects include Greendale Levee Greendale, IN; Long Bridge North in Washington DC/Northern Virginia; I-95 Electronic Toll Lanes and the Harry W Nice/Thomas “Mac” Middleton Bridge Replacement both in Maryland and Alexandria Waterfront Design-Build Improvements in Virginia. This position will also support highway and bridge projects throughout the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania for ODOT, PennDOT and other transportation clients.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for management and oversight of geotechnical investigationsDevelopment and implementation of subsurface investigation programs consisting of test borings, cone penetrometer, dilatometer and geophysical surveysPerform engineering analysis of soils and rock, for design of shallow and deep foundation systems, slope stability, excavations, permanent and temporary retaining systems, dewatering systems and soil improvementPreparation of geotechnical reports and memorandaPreparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimatesResponsible for responses to requests for qualifications and proposalAssist in marketing efforts for growth and development of the geotechnical engineering practice in the Ohio and Pennsylvania RegionConduct and manage on-site geotechnical inspection and engineering services during constructionNonessential Functions and ResponsibilitiesPerform other related duties as assignedQualificationsBS degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in geotechnical courses5 to 10+ years geotechnical engineering experience including analysis, report writing, and proposal preparation requiredExperience with geotechnical software similar to or including gINT, SLIDE, SETTLE3, LPILE, ALLPILE, ReSSA, etc., and LRFD designPropensity and proficiency for problem solving, both in the office and in the field, and have successfully developed innovative solutions to various geotechnical challengesWork independently and as part of a teamStrong writing/verbal skills in order to work with team members, clients, and contractorsPerform field assignments which include, but are not limited to, walking and climbing through areas that have steep slopes or other natural obstaclesCandidates must be capable of working on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environmentCoordination with clients, contractors, outside consultants and firm staff is expectedExcellent written and oral communication skillsMS degree in Geotechnical Engineering (preferred)Professional Engineer certification preferredProficiency in MicroStation/CADD (preferred)Experience working on Federal, State, County and local projects including ODOT and PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike CommissionWorking ConditionsWork is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
