This role requires advanced technical expertise, mechanical aptitude, leadership skills, and hands-on field experience with both electrical control systems and rotating equipment such as generators and flywheels. Strong troubleshooting skills and a commitment to delivering high-performance power solutions in data centers, hospitals, industrial facilities, and utility-scale environments are essential.This position focuses on large-scale RUPS systems rather than a typical UPS engineer role. The ideal candidate will have experience with mechanical systems, generators, and rotary equipment, and be comfortable commissioning complex power systems in the field. You will act as the front-line expert for bringing large-scale RUPS systems online, resolving technical issues, and training others. The engineer will provide technical software and hardware troubleshooting support to IEM customers on-site across North America while performing start-ups, retrofits, or preventative maintenance. You will work with cross-functional IEM teams to integrate current and new technologies, commission complex generator and RUPS systems, optimize power infrastructure, and ensure seamless operation as defined by the customer’s RUPS design and sequence of operations (SOO). You will serve as the point of contact for all field service personnel related to RUPS startup, generator support, preventative maintenance, 24-hour emergency response, and remote technical assistance.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and perform on-site startup, commissioning, and preventative maintenance of RUPS systems, including generator integration, flywheel validation, and facility electrical infrastructure.Perform functional testing, load bank testing, system synchronization, and complete system validation to ensure components meet performance specifications.Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and mechanical issues related to generators, flywheels, switchgear, control systems, fuel systems, and coupling assemblies.Follow a scientific, step-by-step process to troubleshoot equipment issues; capture data and troubleshooting steps clearly for internal and external communication.Work with 3rd party equipment vendors and customers to resolve recurring issues with vendor equipment within IEM’s integrated RUPS systems.Perform functional tests, load tests, synchronization, and RUPS system terface with clients, contractors and internal IEM teams during commissioning and acceptance testing.Ensure startup and commissioning documentation, test reports, on-site daily reports, and required customer records are completed accurately and on time.Provide technical support and guidance during new installations and system upgrades.Train Field Service junior technicians on startup, commissioning procedures, troubleshooting protocols, preventative maintenance, and safe operation of equipment.Maintain compliance with industry and company safety standards, procedures, and client-specific safety municate with Product Engineering and Design Teams regarding product bulletins affecting service, software upgrades, product upgrades, or maintenance factors.Travel to customer sites to lead commissioning activities with junior techs/engineers or complete commissioning independently.Travel to IEM offices as needed to participate in or lead training exercises and factory testing.Assist with project start-up and resolve punch-list items found at the jobsite; coordinate with customer site superintendents or project managers to update punch lists and close out jobs.Provide detailed field trip reports listing onsite issues to IEM manufacturing facilities and work with production, service, and engineering teams to resolve deficiencies.Coordinate with Field Service Leads to schedule additional field resources as needed.Demonstrate ability to manage complex power distribution projects with strong technical aptitude and clear communication.Other duties as required by supervisor.Power System IntegrationLead and support field integration of new RUPS and generator technologies with existing infrastructure, ensuring system compatibility and optimal performance.System OptimizationAnalyze system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability of existing power systems on customer sites.Technical SkillsProficiency in power/automation programming languages and ladder logic (IEC, Python, Java, SQL, HTML).Strong hands-on experience with rotating equipment, diesel generator systems, and mechanical diagnostics.Experience with electrical troubleshooting, including relay testing, load bank setup, and flywheel system commissioning.Experience with load bank testing, grounding systems, and protective relay testing.Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams.Proficiency with diagnostic/testing tools (oscilloscopes, megohmmeters, etc.).Experience with industrial power system controls and monitoring munication Protocols (Modbus/TCP, OPC, DNP3, ARP, IoT, DHCP, IP) and familiarity with TCP/IP suite.Experience with Loop2k and Modscan; ability to analyze and interpret engineering documents, codes, standards, and procedures.Experience with RUPS power system controls engineering, including ATO programming in PLCs, protective relays, and HMIs.Strong verbal and written communication skills;
