OverviewThe Core Tax Services ("CTS") Experienced Manager - ASC740 is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 tax issues. In this role, the Core Tax Services Experienced Manager applies knowledge to understand potential tax issues and communicates potential risks and changes in tax policy.ResponsibilitiesTax ComplianceEnsures that clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and that self and client service teams comply with Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual ("TQM").Conducts top level review of T/R and resolves all tax issues with client; involves specialists where municates with client and Assurance any issues identified in tax accrual reviews.Plans and reviews the tax process and procedures to be performed, including:Budgeting and staffingMonitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget with assistance of SeniorTimely billing including management of identified out-of-scope activity and communication to clientTimely collection of A/RManages client relationships/expectations in accordance with the project.Provides advice to clients in a timely manner.ResearchIdentifies when research is needed; frames issues to be researched clearly and concisely; reports the analysis.Identifies complex issues to be researched by engagement team and provides research methodology for efficient research processes.Trains managers/staff on research skills and helps to frame ASC 740 tax issues for volves firm specialists, as appropriate.ASC 740-10 (fka FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax AccrualsCorrectly and proactively applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding ASC 740.Explains and discusses components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to the client as well as other complexities surrounding ASC municates with Assurance team to timely plan tax accrual reviews, including budget, scope and delivery dates.Reviews tax provisions, applying in-depth knowledge of ASC 740.Reviews prepared workpapers.Utilizes and manages Specialized Tax Services ("STS"), as needed.Tax ConsultingAssists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients/' current and future taxes.Considers applicability of CTS and STS consulting specialties for each client.Develops and implements a work plan to include/organize STS assistance on ongoing projects from client.Serves as a technical resource.Ensures client service teams comply with Firm policy regarding Written Tax Advice ("WTA").Provides effective assistance with exam support.Frames projects and issues for effective delegation to seniors and associates.Tax SpecializationDevelops an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues regarding taxation areas (e.g., individual, corporate, property, sales, state and local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, compensation and benefits, accounting methods, R&D tax benefits).May organize and conduct internal CPE training sessions in area of specialization, involving Firm specialists.May train and mentor managers/seniors/associates on ASC 740.Strategy DevelopmentIntroduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel (e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits).Consistently suggests improvements to previous work products or approaches.May lead marketing campaigns, if applicable to role.Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.Collaborates with the Firm/'s National Tax and Specialized Tax Services to deliver high-quality deliverables and analyses on ASC 740.Other duties as requiredSupervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervises associates and senior associates on all projects.Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments.Trains associates and seniors on how to use current software tools.Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates.Schedules and manages workload of associates and senior associates.Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates.Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesEducation:Bachelors degree in Accounting or Taxation, requiredMasters degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferredExperience:Six (6) or more years of prior experience, requiredExperience in managing the process of preparing and auditing ASC740 computations for both privately held and publicly traded clients, requiredPrior supervisory experience, requiredMultinational client experience, preferredLicense/Certifications:CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent ("CE") (or the equivalent of one of these designations), requiredSoftware:Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat, preferredExperience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA Proficient in all tax compliance process software including GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, or comparable programs and standard tax workpapers, preferredOther Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Superior verbal and written communication skillsAbility to effectively delegate work as neededStrong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skillsAbility to work well in a team environmentAble to develop and manage a team of tax professionalsAbility to compose written tax adviceAbility to effectively develop and maintain client are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.California Range: $115,000 - $165,000Colorado
