Job Description

The Department of Computer Science of the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions. Outstanding candidates in all areas of Computer Science will be considered. We particularly encourage candidates with expertise broadly in systems (especially security, databases, distributed systems, networking, programming languages, or architecture) or artificial intelligence and its applications (especially foundational machine learning or machine learning applications). All positions are subject to the availability of funding. The department is ranked among the top computer science departments in the country. It has 57 tenured and tenure-track faculty members across all areas of computer science. Many of these faculty participate in interdisciplinary programs and centers in the University, including among others Texas Robotics, the Machine Learning Laboratory, the Institute on Foundations of Machine Learning (an NSF AI Institute), Learning Directed Operating Systems (NSF Expeditions in Computing), the Center for Generative AI, the Good Systems Grand Challenge on Ethical AI, the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), and the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Science. Austin, the capital of Texas, is a center for high-technology industry, including companies such as Amazon, AMD, Apple, Applied Materials, AT&T, Dell, Google, IBM, National Instruments, Samsung, and Silicon Labs. For more information about the department, please visit All tenure-track positions require a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in computer science or a related area at the time of employment. Successful candidates are expected to pursue an active research program, to teach both graduate and undergraduate courses, and to supervise graduate students in research. All faculty positions require a cover letter, current curriculum vita, research statement, teaching statement and selected publications.
