Continuation of position is contingent upon funding allocations.Every employee of Stockbridge Munsee Community is expected to present themselves in a professional manner to customers as well as other departments. Stockbridge Munsee Community strives to provide a provide a positive team environment where everyone contributes.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIESThis position is responsible for the assisting with the direction and management of all Head Start Center (hereinafter, Center) functions. This position includes advanced or specialized knowledge and skills in managing Head Start Component Area and is responsible for monitoring and evaluating Education, Health and Safety, Nutrition, Mental Health, Transition, Transportation, Parent Involvement, Community Partnerships and Disabilities services. This position is responsible for supervision of program aides and nutritional specialist. This position is responsible for all front office operations including managing telephone calls and maintaining children's records. This position will work collaboratively with the Center Manager to assure the efficient, effective delivery of quality day-to-day services.This position will develop and maintain a clear understanding of Federal Head Start Performance Standards and Department of Children and Families regulations to ensure compliance.STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.Must be at least 21 years of ageMust maintain an acceptable departmental attendance recordMust be able to work weekends, nights and holidaysMust obtain and maintain Elder/Youth LicenseDUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:Build an understanding of Center program by communicating its philosophy, mission, and services to staff, families, tribal leaders and the community.Monitor and evaluate all component area services including Education, Health and Safety, Nutrition, Mental Health, Transition, Transportation, Parent Involvement, Community Partnerships and Disabilities services.Support day-to-day program operations in the absence of Center Manager providing leadership for the Center program and staff maintaining compliance with all Federal Office of Head Start (OHS); Performance Standards (HSPS); State of Wisconsin, Department of Children and Families (DCF); State of Wisconsin Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Tribal, and local policies, and procedures. Acts a back-up for all program positions including van/bus driver in the event of staff absences. Assist team in conducting home visits, orientation, and Parent/Teacher ConferencesProvide day-to-day mentoring and coaching for teaching staff in the areas of curriculum planning, teaching strategies and lesson planning.Manage front office services including incoming and outgoing calls, monitor and document all child attendance, absences and enrollment as well as ensures proper documentation is complete within in child's file. Attains parental signatures as needed.Collaborate with the Center van/bus driver to confirm routes, rider participation, evacuation drills and safety alarm plete Center work and purchase orders to ensure proper maintenance of facility and adequate supplies.Direct the development, distribution and maintenance of monthly calendars, newsletters, Head Start Corner, and parent correspondence.Support team professional development through identification of training needs.Maintain current program and leadership knowledge by examining program-related materials and current research related to developments in early childhood programs.Support the implementation of programmatic short- and long-term goals to support service delivery and to support continuous quality work and coordinate services with other Tribal programs, County, State, Private, and Federal agencies. Collaborate with community partners to foster comprehensive community services and transition to district services for children and families for assistance in the identification children who may require referral for special services. Facilitate transitions from Center to home, and/or other early childhood education services including necessary accessing therapies, education and Kindergarten as appropriate.Advance program practice by promoting a positive working environment and working collaboratively with other staff to understand and support the adoption of best practices for children, families, and staff.Assist in achievement of program goals by remaining informed of pertinent day-to-day activities and adjusting own work accordingly.Practice and model for colleagues, excellent customer service skills at all times which include, but not limited to, addressing family, partner and employee needs courteously and promptly.Adhere and conform to all tribal law and departmental personnel policies and procedures to the best of their abilities.Upon request, satisfactorily complete additional exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or as deemed necessary by the supervisor.QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Human Services or a related field from an accredited College or University is required; Master's Degree preferred. (CANDIDATE MUST SUBMIT COPY WHICH DEMONSTRATES SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF DEGREE(S) TO COMPLETE APPLICATION).A minimum of three years professional leadership/management and/or supervisory experience is preferred, preferably in an educational non-profit setting.This position demands a unique skill set which requires the individual to be both detail oriented, as well as, deeply comfortable with ongoing change and ambiguity. This position requires the individual demonstrate the ability to "think on their feet," creatively solve problems in a highspeed, complex environment. A successful candidate will be and individual that thrives in a demanding, unpredictable, everchanging, fast-paced environment.Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and dress code guidelines.Must demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with Center staff, parents, and community partners in the best interests of Center enrollees.Must demonstrate the ability to efficiently and effectively develop and carry out age-appropriate activities with enrolled children.Must assist in establishing and adhering to health, safety policies and procedures which support a safe, healthy learning environment. This includes universal precautions, frequent handwashing, cleaning and sanitizing equipment.Must be able to communicate clearly, assertively and effectively both orally and in writing.Must be able to effectively and efficiently process information to identify problems and to make timely, objective decisions in the best interests of the Center, colleagues, children and families.Must be able to understand the motivation behind children's behaviors, to quickly evaluate and manage those behaviors in a positive, respectful manner.Must be able to operate standard office equipment including a computer, laminator, and copy/fax machine. Additional skill and knowledge of smart boards, iPads, and other advanced technologies preferred.Must be dependable and reliable and have demonstrated the ability to maintain a satisfactory employment record with previous employers.Must adhere to strict confidentiality in all Center matters. (All candidates are required to sign a confidentiality statement prior to start of employment.)Must obtain and maintain department approved First Aid and CPR certifications or be willing to obtain these certifications within (30) days of date of employment.Must adhere to Tribal Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policies during the course of employment. Evidence of a negative tuberculosis (TB) screening or skin test is required within 90 days of employment and annually thereafter.Upon request, satisfactorily completes additional exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.Must have a valid State of Wisconsin operator's license to drive, reliable transportation, and insurance. Candidates with an out-of-state operator's license must obtain a Wisconsin operator's license within 30 days of employment. Must meet and maintain the eligibility to operate a personal or tribal vehicle under the driver acceptability guidelines as established by Mohican Nation Insurance.Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and dress code guidelines.Must obtain Serv Safe Food Safety Certification within three (3) months of hire, renew certification bi-annually and maintain certification during employment.Must work as a responsive team member serving young child and maintain an effective, positive working relationship with all colleagues, supervisors and families in a complex, multi-cultural environment.Must process information in an effective manner which supports learning new material.
