Goochland County is the smallest county in the United States to have earned the highest rating from all three credit rating agencies which reflects the County's exceptional financial resilience and is home to an award-winning public-school system.DescriptionThis position performs general utility maintenance duties for the Department of Utilities as assigned by the Operations Manager.Essential FunctionsConducts flushing of the public water distribution system as needed.Reads water meters, replaces meters, and maintains meter records.Performs hydrant and valve maintenance.Assists with the Department of Public Utilities hydrant valve inspection program.Assists with preventative maintenance duties for DPU infrastructure.Maintains and keeps accurate records and prepares reports.Performs other assigned duties.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of math and science.Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel and the public.Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and coworkers.Ability to accurately read meters and gauges.Ability to keep accurate records.Ability to carry out general procedures as directed by management.Ability to work independently.Ability to use standard tools used in the assigned area.Education, Experience and TrainingHigh school diploma or equivalent;Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field preferred;Any amount of work experience in water and/or wastewater operations is a plus but not required.Valid State of Virginia Driver's License with a driving record that meets HR Policy requirements.Other Necessary RequirementsWork is medium work, which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Tasks may require the ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required: climbing, bending, reaching, handling, and grasping.As part of employment with Goochland County, all employees are required to complete Emergency preparedness and incident management training courses as directed or requested.Goochland County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
