General Notes The Dell Medical School, in conjunction with Ascension Texas, is seeking Advanced Practice Nurses or Physician Assistants to be part of the Institute for Cardiovascular Health. These individuals will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to serve the growing need of the regional adult population to deliver world class adult cardiovascular and thoracic surgical care.PurposeIn close collaboration with supervising physicians, provides for the expansion of individualized healthcare services by diagnosing and treating adult cardiovascular and thoracic conditions. The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) will primarily staff the ICU but will also cross cover the telemetry ward providing patient-centered, competent, compassionate, and professional care in both out-patient and in-patient settings. Responsibilities Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs health assessments, screening, and patient careProvides direct treatment and management of conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resourcesDocuments delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policyParticipates in orientation and education of staff and students.Other related functions as assigned Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited training program and board certified by the respective accreditation bodyPhysician Assistant with board certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and licensed through the Texas Medical BoardAdvanced Practice Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Authority and board certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and licensed through the Texas Board of Nursing.Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.Preferred QualificationsCardiovascular and thoracic experience preferredAbility to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidanceAbility to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various situations.
