Anesthesiology Nurse Practitioner

MedStar Medical Group Anesthesiology is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Acute Pain Service (APS) at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a premier academic medical center located in the heart of Washington, DC. This role offers a high-impact clinical experience within a fast-paced, collaborative environment, serving a diverse patient population across a wide range of complex surgical services. As part of a cohesive and highly specialized APS team, the NP will play a vital role in advancing pain management practices while working closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary care teams in an academic hospital setting. Position OverviewThe Nurse Practitioner will function as a clinical consultant within a multidisciplinary team, managing both acute and chronic pain for hospitalized patients. Key responsibilities include:Rounding daily on new and established patientsConducting comprehensive patient assessments and perioperative evaluationsPerforming histories and physicals (H&Ps), interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing care plansPrescribing and managing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain treatmentsManaging epidural and peripheral nerve cathetersDocumenting clinical findings in progress notesEducating patients and families on pain management strategiesProviding pain management education and serving as a clinical resource for healthcare team members across the institution Position will include mandatory 6-8 weeks of initial, comprehensive training at our hospitals in Washington, D.C.
