OverviewSoutheast Animal Hospital is looking for a part time/full time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join the team! We are looking for an experienced, trustworthy and friendly individual with excellent communication skills. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing high-quality care for animals and you will also provide education and resources to our clients. You will assist our veterinarians in various procedures, you will work side by side with our support staff to ensure the safety and well-being of all animals in our hospital. Your expertise will be essential in providing outstanding service to both our animal patients and their owners. We do see a range of exotics from birds to snakes and wildlife as well! We do require you to have a minimum of 2 years experience working at a veterinary hospital and a valid NYS license. At Southeast Animal Hospital we're not only looking for a person with great technical skills, we're looking for a special person who also believes in fostering a culture which promotes compassion for pet parents, compassion for each other, open communication and a commitment to personal and professional growth.DutiesAssist veterinarians and assistants during examinations and surgical procedures.Obtain the initial history from pet owners at the start of their appointment.Perform routine laboratory tests, including but not limited to blood work, blood smears, urinalysis, fecal, heartworm testing, and other rapid tests.Prepare out bound lab samples.Placing catheters/blood drawAnesthesia monitoringSet up for surgery, dentals, X-rays and UltrasoundsSterilize surgical instrumentsPerform Laser therapy on patientsAdminister medications, vaccinations, and treatments as prescribed.Prep and monitor patients pre- and post-operatively.Maintain accurate medical records, drug logs and documentation for each patient.Educate pet owners on proper pet care, nutrition, and training techniques.Ensure cleanliness and organization within the hospital.Handle animals with care and compassion during all interactions.Call pet parents with lab results.Phone triage with pet parentsMaintain inventoryAssist other team members as needed.SkillsThe ideal candidate will possess the following skills:Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology and dental terminology.Strong technical skills for exam room appointments and surgery knowledge.Proficient understanding of animal anatomy and husbandry practices.Ability to lift +50 poundsExperience with Google Sheets and the ability to learn different software programs.Strong organizational skillsStrong time management skillsStrong mathematical skillsComfortable with all breeds and species. Exotic experience is a plusGood people skills exhibiting respect, kindness and compassion while interacting with pet owners and other team members in person or over the phone.Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.Strong ability to troubleshoot and independent problem solving.
