Job Overview: As the Assistant Produce Department Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the overall operations and management of our produce department. You will collaborate closely with the Produce Department Manager to ensure the department's smooth functioning, maintain excellent customer service, and drive sales. Your responsibilities will include supervising and training staff, overseeing inventory and ordering, maintaining quality and freshness standards, and promoting a clean and organized work environment. This position requires strong leadership skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for delivering exceptional products to our valued customers. Key Responsibilities: Support the Produce Department Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the produce department, including opening and closing procedures, scheduling, and staffing. Assist in training and supervising a team of produce department employees, including assigning tasks, providing coaching and feedback, and conducting performance evaluations. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper handling, storage, and rotation of produce products. Monitor inventory levels, anticipate demand, and place accurate and timely orders to maintain optimal product availability while minimizing waste. Maintain a visually appealing and well-organized produce department, including proper product signage, pricing, and cleanliness. Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to negotiate pricing, resolve issues, and ensure timely delivery of fresh and high-quality produce. Implement effective merchandising strategies to maximize sales, including attractive product displays, cross-selling opportunities, and seasonal promotions. Monitor and analyze sales data, customer feedback, and industry trends to identify areas for improvement and implement appropriate strategies. Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with inquiries, resolving complaints, and offering product recommendations and information. Stay up to date with industry trends, new products, and advancements in produce handling and quality standards to ensure a competitive edge in the market. Qualifications: Previous experience in a produce department or a similar role within the retail industry is required. Strong knowledge of various produce items, including quality standards, handling procedures, and seasonality. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train, motivate, and supervise a team. Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, with a focus on attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions based on data and customer feedback. Proficient computer skills, including experience with inventory management systems and basic spreadsheet applications. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the business.
