The Deep Tech Architecture group within the Analog Garage applies leading-edge circuit design, device design, and nanoscale fabrication technologies to develop innovative solutions to big societal problems.We are seeking a Deep‑Tech Optical Sensing Researcher to drive early‑stage innovation across ADI’s strategic focus areas, including human health, planetary health, autonomy, and intelligent systems. The ideal candidate will explore, evaluate, and prototype novel optical sensing concepts-designing experiments, validating principles, and rapidly iterating solutions to tackle high‑impact technological challenges.Responsibilities include one or more of the following:Drive proof-of-principle activities for sensing technology development by:Applying deep knowledge of physics, chemistry, spectroscopy, microscopy, and other techniques to select appropriate sensing modalitiesDetermining the most time and cost-efficient methods to assess the efficacy of the selected measurement techniquesCreating and implementing a design of experimentsAnalyzing data to determine which modalities merit further examinationContributing to the design and implementation of proof-of-concept optical sensing systems.Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including photonics experts, PCB designers, algorithm developers, and biologists to deliver integrated solutions.Distilling complex requirements from diverse stakeholders into innovative solutions that combine optics, electronics, and biology.Engaging with external research partners and universities to advance the state of the art in optical sensing technologies.Training colleagues in relevant areas such as sensing techniques, sample characteristics, and instrument operation.Ensuring that lab instruments are maintained and calibrated.Minimum Qualifications:Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and/or Nanoscale Science.Deep expertise in:Biological and chemical samples.Spectroscopy techniques such as fluorescence, UV-Vis, FTIR, DLS, and Raman.Optical sensing techniques such as FIC, FLIM, TPEF, and SRS.Analyzing data measured with the above techniques.Hands-on experience with biological/chemical samples and related sensing challenges.Minimum of 10+ years relevant industry or research experience in optical sensing and/or spectroscopy systems.Proven track record of developing innovative sensing technologies and translating them into functional prototypes.Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to thrive in an early-stage R&D environment.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in designing and/or specifying optical sensing for scientific or medical instruments.Experience working with customers and external partners.Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to adapt to rapidly evolving technology landscapes.For positions requiring access to technical data, Analog Devices, Inc. may have to obtain export licensing approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce - Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the U.S. Department of State - Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. Job Req Type: Experienced Required Travel: Yes, 10% of the time Shift Type: 1st Shift/DaysThe expected wage range for a new hire into this position is $157,080 to $227,460.Actual wage offered may vary depending on work location , experience, education, training, external market data, internal pay equity, or other bona fide factors.This position qualifies for a discretionary performance-based bonus which is based on personal and company factors.This position includes medical, vision and dental coverage, 401k, paid vacation, holidays, and sick time, and other benefits.
