MUSC Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our dedicated Colorectal Surgery team. The successful applicant will be a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant interested in working full-time in the care of Colorectal Surgery patients. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will join a busy practice of three Colorectal Surgeons. The practice provides the breadth of colorectal surgical services to the community including multidisciplinary care to colon and rectal cancer patients, surgical management of IBD and benign abdominal disease, management of anorectal surgical problems, and endoscopy. The team works closely with members of gastroenterology and oncology and has a stable, experienced, and collegial office support staff. This position will have a focus in supporting the colorectal surgery team primarily in the hospital setting with a small office-based component focused on providing ostomy teaching and ongoing support for patients. Required Qualifications:Advanced Practice Provider: Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)Ostomy Care experience or Ostomy Care Certified (OCC) certification is a plusPassion for delivering outstanding patient care and working as part of a teamCommitted to improving outcomes in colorectal and ostomy management while promoting optimal patient recovery and quality of life. Position Highlights / Direct patient care activities:Evaluate inpatient admissions and consultations to the Colorectal Surgery Service with documentation of history, physical examination, pertinent laboratory and radiological studies, and assessment and plan.Provide continued care to Colorectal Surgery in-patients with ongoing communication with nursing staff and patient family, follow-up of any newly ordered tests, and assistance with patient discharge planning.Assistance with active admission or discharge processes.Provide inpatient ostomy instruction to help expedite discharge of patients going home with a new ostomy. Provide continued support to ostomy patients with a small outpatient clinic. Previous experience with ostomy care is not a requirement for interested candidates. Off-site training and on-the-job teaching to be provided.Possibility to develop first-assistant skills in the operating room if candidate is interested.On-call expectation is to provide coverage for one weekend per month. Back up on-call support will be available. Other professional expectations:Complete appropriate and timely documentation and billing.Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.Maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law.
