Job Description

Job Title Maintain accurate payroll and accounts payable records for the school district. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Calculate employee wages from district time keeping system for payment of wages. Maintain accurate data for employee absences. Prepare withholding and other tax reports and files with agencies as required. Processes information for new employees, changes for existing employees, resignations and retirements. Completes employee verifications for financial institutions and state agencies. Meets with employees to discuss employee benefits. Assists in training new employees and implementation of district initiatives. Processes accounts payable check run. Files check covers and invoices as needed. Prepares correspondence and communicates with payroll coordinators and other staff. Greets visitors, ascertains nature of business, and assist as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualification Requirements Education & Experience: Associates or two-year degree in Accounting/Business or prior experience in Accounting/Business/Bookkeeping/Information Technology. Previous experience in computerized accounting systems. Note: Applicants for this position may be required to take and pass a basic accounting test administered by Decatur City Schools prior to being interviewed for the position. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routing reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, teachers, and parents. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Alabama Driver's License Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to find, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to bend, stoop, squat, climb stairs, crouch kneel, and balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to push, pull, carry, life, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. Salary: Salary Schedule H1: $45,772 - $69,892 Listed below are items that may be necessary to complete your employment process in order to compute your annual salary.
