Job Description

Paint Prep This position requires a person to sand and mask a variety of components such as skids, engines, electrical panels, trailers, etc. or any other sheet metal or plastic. Essential functions include: Metal preparation by sanding, grinding or deburring using a variety of tools including dual action sander, (D.A.) grinders, hand chisel, and on occasion, sand. Does masking of components using masking tape and/or paper to protect from overspray. The ability to disassemble units and accessories prior to prepping and painting. Identifying to particular jobs. Must be able to prepare parts for painting by cleaning, sanding, taping and hanging. Checks and makes sure surface is adequately prepared for painting. Keeps paint equipment in clean, working order. Cleans work area on a daily basis. Uses a variety of individually supplied hand tools such as sockets, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. Changes filters in paint booth as directed by team leader. A continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required. Must be able to communicate effectively, get along with co-workers, and deal with colleagues effectively and professionally. Working Under Pressure - Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations. Skills and abilities include: Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED). 1 or 2 years of shop class/vocational training preferred. Experience: Minimum of 2 years industrial/automotive painting experience preferred. 2- 3 years experience in the field of industrial painting preferred. Must be able to lift 70 lbs. and bend or stoop over to access parts at or near floor level. Must be able to use a variety of hand tools, shop equipment such as sockets, screwdrivers, wrenches, electric and air sanding tools, forklift and overhead crane. Must possess good mechanical knowledge and skills. Must understand blueprints. Certificates & Licenses: Ability to pass Hi-Lo Training and receive a Hi-Lo Operator permit. Ability to pass Crane Training and receive a Crane Operator permit. Physical demands include: Lift/Carry: Stand (Constantly), Walk (Constantly), Sit (Occasionally), Handling / Fingering (Constantly), Reach Outward (Frequently), Reach Above Shoulder (Frequently), Climb (Occasionally), Crawl (Occasionally), Squat or Kneel (Occasionally), Bend (Occasionally) Push/Pull: 12 lbs or less (Frequently), 13-25 lbs (Frequently), 26-40 lbs (Frequently), 41-100 lbs (Occasionally) Other physical requirements include: Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral), Sense of Sound (noise level is usually loud.), Sense of Touch, Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (safety glasses, respirator, hearing protection, steel toe shoes) Work environment characteristics include: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
